I spoke to a friend who owns a dealership and he told me that when they brought the big boats down, they always went by water. They were lifted and trailered to the convention center. Well things have changed. The sponsors of the show said no more lifting and trailering. That means all the larger boats would have to be disassembled and reassembled and that cost is passed on to the dealer. A very big expense for the dealer. This is going to be the way of the future until the economy bounces back. Steve

We always have to trailer and reassemble our boats at our indoor show. And we always have been responsible for the cost to do such. Most of our boats aren't expresses where all you have to do is put up an arch or hardtop...we usually bring sedans and aft cabins that require quite a bit of assembly.

Depends on the show mandm1200. Some shows- especially the indoor ones- are arranged by maker but are multi-dealer attended so the factory definitely subsidizes. Some the dealer itself bears most of the cost.

Sounds like BS to me. Who paid to have the boats at the show? If it were the dealer and it was their boats than the manufacture could care less how they got there.

Formula always (always meaning the years that I was involved) trailered boats to the indoor shows and took the big boats by water to the outdoor shows. That's why you generally saw less big boats in AC/NY, etc except when they had a new model out that they really wanted to show off (ie the first year or so of the Yacht). And yes, trailering the boats is a big investment when you have to get permits and partially dissasemble them. I can see why in lighter years they wouldn't make the investment...

OK, I'll lock the other one so there is one less decision as to where to post, hopefully there will be some observations over the weekend.

Steve, good information, is there a reason you started a new topic when there was one there already?
