The motors are fantastic. I ran the boat around for a pretty long time at different speeds yesterday and was very happy. Two brand new motors with everything new (fuel, electric, and ignition)on them was the way to go. I could have never bought another boat that runs this good for the money it cost to re-power.
So far the cr drive is great. The boat seems to track a little better. It turns much better at cruising speed.
I haven't had a chance to spend any time backing in to a slip with it, I dock alongside the bulkhead in my own slip, but I'm hoping that backing up will be better than it was with the two standard rotation drives.
BoatCrazy Posted - May 06 2012 : 13:42:24
John, let us know what you think about the upgrade in outdrive. Also, how are the new motors running????

I am going in today. Only used the new boat 4 times last year and am looking forward to a good year.

Monday's going to be the day for me. The forecast is great and the boat is ready. Hopefully, the buoys from GSB east are in. I'm going to be doing the trip from Bluepoint to Eastport alone, using the chart (plotted), GPS (plotted), and the depth sounder. This is going to be my longest solo trip, with quite a few course changes to stay in deeper water. I admit I'm a little nervous. I'll post after I return home on Monday evening. Hy

Finally went in Friday!

JVM225 Posted - May 05 2012 : 16:41:23
Now I have them both in, but there was another really low tide when I went in at Tanner earlier today.
But I did get to spend some time just cruising around and it was flat as glass out there. I can count on one hand the number of boats I saw running around. Had the Bay to myself. It sure was nice.
JVM225 Posted - May 01 2012 : 13:26:18
I got the smaller boat I share with my Uncle in yesterday afternoon. The tide was super low. Not a problem for the little boat, but with no buoys it can be a little unsettling for anything that draws more than a foot or two of water.
My boat is ready to go. I just need to align my schedule, the tides, and the boat hauler to arrange for a day and time.
Perry Posted - Apr 30 2012 : 05:32:17
Finally got out for a bit yesterday. Beautiful day albeit a breezy one. Boat ran great. Not too many out so I had the bay and ocean to myself. Good luck with the splashing if you haven't already.

I was at boat today, and the tide was as low as I have seen it. This north wind has blown all the water out of our sand pit! Hope this weather improves for next weekend.

Dave, how I dont miss those days. Late night, super early mornings.

Look at the bright side, you get to go for a nice boat ride..Seems worth it to me

CurrentSea Posted - Apr 17 2012 : 19:33:25
We have to stop for fuel at Atlantic Highlands, so figure that in the equation.
I am game to sleep onboard night before but I don't get home until around 11 thursday night!

Walter, thanks for the invite, I would have liked to go with you guys but mine is supposed to be launched at 10am and I need to be there to take it home. Actually need to get there early to load the safety gear on, re-install my electronics, etc. I took the day off so once you're in your slip give me a call and I'll come by and hang out with you guys a bit. Good luck with everything, looking forward to seeing the new boat!

I think if you get to Staten Island around 6:30 and leave within an hour or so you'll be good for FI inlet assuming sea conditions are okay. If I remember correctly it takes me 2 hours from FI inlet to NY harbor so shouldn't be much longer than that.

John
walterv Posted - Apr 16 2012 : 18:01:52
John,
Mark, Rob and Dave are coming, do you want to come as well?

I figured we would be in Staten Island by 6:30 am, does that sound right?
JohnC Posted - Apr 16 2012 : 14:37:19
Walter, what time are you supposed to leave Friday? Personally I'd rather go outside then be dealing with the inside route, new boat, new electronics, etc. If the weather is good if you get off to an early start you can be to FI inlet by 10am or so and arrive for slack water after high tide and have high tide for the ride through the bay.

Steve,
I dont know if u know the Babylon cut. Its maybe 40' wide. This PUTZ in ISLAND GAL is anchored almost dead center in the channel. Its dead low tide and He's giving me the stink eye .... Not the way to start the season.

Ill leave the Wantagh Draw bridge out . Everyone knows the story there .

Six bridges from East Rockaway inlet.

Atlantic Beach - shouldn't need an opening with antennas down.

Long Beach Leeds RR - Everyone but a kayak needs an opening.

Long Beach Rd Br - I think always tended - on demand.

Issue as you know is the Loop, Meadowbrook and Wantagh. One tender drives between them.

Best to call.

Splash date? Actually there will be several. A splash is how much go juice will be hitting the tanks when I pull up to the fuel dock!

Anyone have a preference as to which tide tables they like for around here. This is my first full season on LI and it seems the tides play a tremendous factor at some of the shallow spots.

Thanks - and sorry for the typo's yesterday. iPad fingers!
littlebookworm Posted - Apr 16 2012 : 09:07:04
My plan was to splash this Friday and run the boat east to its new berth, in Eastport. Unfortunately, it looks like low tide in Moriches Bay is going to be mid-day evry day this week, just when I planned on crossing the bay on the way to Eastport. I may delay until next week just to give myself more "water." My timing's also going to depend on getting a friend or relative to come with me during the week to be my first mate. I've got some phone calls to make this evening to get a volunteer! Hy

I saw him on my canal Thursday putting boats in.
I'm going to use the boat hauler and his trailer to go back in this year. I changed the fence around on my property so that I can take it apart. The boat hauler put it up for me in the fall.
I set it up that way to make the re-power easier. It's also a lot more convenient being able to go in and out by appointment, and a little cheaper too.
Not sure if I'll go back to using the crane again or not. Gregg was good, but the way he puts it up, if anything happens to him I'm screwed.

Went to the boat this AM, open seacocks for the Mains & Gen, went to the helm to start em up

Gen & Starboard started on first crank, Port batteries wasted- moved one of the new Starboard batteries and Port started on first crank as well.

After having diesels for about 10 Years it still amazes me how they can be instant on after sitting for 4 months
Dani-Lu Posted - Apr 14 2012 : 21:56:06
I'm in. Ran her today and unfortunately had to put a bunch of diesel in her - ouch. But worth it! It was great to be back on the water. Sleeping on her tonight. Doesnt get better! A great season to all.
