Matt Rutherford is about to complete his round americas trip in the next 2 weeks. This will be the first solo trip around the americas that has been completed. He went through the northwest passage.
His web site that contains details of his voyage is:-

Amazing what a prepared man & a humble boat can achieve. The Albin 27 that I had for 13 years was a decendant of that Albin Vega. That boat started to get tight on us after a few nights away from shore & the 27 is a far roomier boat than the Vega & most other <30' cruisers.

I was there to watch as he pulled into City Dock. My wife was proud to have worked with this remarkable young man. He said he was lucky to have beautiful weather and a rainbow as he rounded Cpae Horn.

About 133nm from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel as of 1800EDT Sunday. Looks like a Monday evening return to the Bay. What a trip.

Quite amazing. The boat is a Swedish built 30 something year old Albin Vega. Albin became a US company in the early 80s & produced mostly single diesel boats such as the 27, 28, 32+2, 36 fast trawler & 40 North Sea trawler.

Another week, amazing feat!

100nm today. Not bad. And he's keeping within a few degrees of the same heading, still right on target for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (about 350nm away). If he keeps this heading and speed, he will cross into the Bay this weekend, maybe Saturday.

With all of those people and all of that noise and craziness, he might just get hop back in the boat and head out to sea again............

Wow .. I could not imagine making that loop in a 27ft boat.

His last report (0100GMT // 2100EDT, 10 April) had him on heading 338True (right on target for the Chesepeake Bay Bridge Tunnel) and at 5.8 knots. He must have caught the stream or have a good wind, which makes up for that snarky weather he had a few days ago. (But if he's in the Gulf Stream, wouldn't you think he'd want to make a slightly more westerly heading to make good for the Bay Bridge Tunnel? Just thinking.)

Long time to be alone in a 27ft boat.

Before Global Warming it wouldn't have been possible.

I am not sure how many folks appreciate the magnitude of what this guy has done. Truly amazing.
