Took the center console to NYC to see the ships. On the way back, skies darkened, so we beat feet. Got back to marina ahead of storm. Just went thru 40 mins of heavy wind, torrential rain and lightning. Now its sunny again and a rainbow across the river!

We did both of them as well. I actually lived at the top of the hill in bowline so spent salot of time there as a kid. Croton was the spot most of the time.
Audrey II Posted - Jun 05 2012 : 06:13:01
What's odd is I didn't my parents had there two boats in Haverstraw for years and I never knew about Bowline until I about 2000 when I had my own boats on the Hudson.
I grow up in Croton and Little Stony Point.
Caryl-d Posted - Jun 05 2012 : 04:47:09
Its home to me, I grew up there!
Audrey II Posted - Jun 04 2012 : 17:49:35
He came to Haverstraw after, I believe he got a diver to do what he needed done.

I heard he was a nice guy on a big trip!

For the record Bowline is the place to be:) I'm going to retire and live there.

He came over to ask me about finding a lift that was wide enough for his boat. He told me he found the cove on Active Captain.

Butch I know you don't know me well but I just like to bust balls I didn't expect you to come running but it was nice of the guy from Florida to do so he really saved the day!
Caryl-d Posted - Jun 03 2012 : 09:04:46
Dave, we stayed out of the way. Too many advisors only cause more confusion and they did not need that at the time.

I don't mean to hi-jack this thread, but it was a great time. You guys should join us next year. If you go to the end of this thread there are some pics...

Audrey II Posted - May 31 2012 : 17:07:58
Butch it was nice of you to come and offer a hand:)

Ben Spreadsheet really? let me guess Greg printed out copies for everyone. Speaking of which how many boats were in your raft up? My Nephew is already asking me to go next year so he can join me, I told him I would think about it.

Butch we had to do that so we could see how the 2 anchors were attached. Once we scoped it out the guy on the cat was kind enough to unhook them as we lifted them out of the water and then let off some of the tension. I was not aware that the other boat went over his (our?) line/chain. That could have been a major mess....
Caryl-d Posted - May 31 2012 : 11:36:18
Hogan came in just after the incident. Then scariest part of it was the 39 silverton spun around backwards with the anchor rode going under the boat. Both boats had the line pulled tight. I swore it was going to turn bad there but they did get out of it and I dont believe either suffered any damage. At the end I think everyone can say it was a great weekend.

You missed a great weekend! Bill and Jerry had some excitement at the end but we all had a great time and most still don't even know about this, they broke away without incident.

That was my job but I left before the last two anchors were pulled and I feel like I failed. Next time we will but Hank in charge:) I'm good at passing the buck!

Truth is I felt real good about how secure we were for the night. My anchor was so locked in we weren't going anywhere it was hard to pull out and I was good with that.

I can't wait for the next raft up!
Victorias Secret Posted - May 30 2012 : 19:48:23
So Mike are you asking for the job?? It was just strange how that happened, and yes Dave I know we were very careful on the placement of the drop zones.... Sh*$ Happens....

Audrey II Posted - May 30 2012 : 17:12:59
Bill the reason we had three anchor in a row was because I asked the people I felt confident could handle the task I wasn't sure about people I have never rafted up with before.
Victorias Secret Posted - May 30 2012 : 16:38:49
We were very lucky that we did not have a bigger problem. Thanks to the guy in the cat he helped us get untangled. I cannot figure out how we got crossed up but it was a first time experience for me and I have been boating for a long time. Plus while we were moving around in Bowline I still had the stern anchor set and the dingy attached. After a while that anchor pulled up, however due to some good luck the line did not get tangled in my props.. and the dingy just went for a crazy ride. I think next time every other boat should drop... What a great weekend in spite of the mess at the end.

Oh and as I was trying to decide if I should re-anchor to put away the dingy and roll up the line on the stern anchor, a friend came in (Season Ticket)and I was going to raft with him. Well his windless jammed and he then had to come over and tie up to me while he tried to fix it. Once he realized he needed a new part, he went over and tied up with Anchor Management and Hogan as we had to leave. It did give us around 2 more hours in the pond...
Audrey II Posted - May 30 2012 : 15:09:43
Yes I heard about this I still can't figure out how they got tangled but I will take the blame I had them both drop and I was very careful as to the placement. We had three anchors out front and two stern I spreed them out like a fan one to the port one out straight forward and mine to the starboard I left uneventfully I wasn't there to see them struggle but I feel bad about it. They still had a stern anchor out so it's not like they spun and crossed lines. The stern anchor made it that much harder to correct the situation.

Aside from that it was a great weekend now I'm paying the price with a bad sun burn. I used 30 sunscreen but I guess not often enough!
Caryl-d Posted - May 30 2012 : 12:29:51
Dave, The last 2 boats of your raftup had a bad experience. One of them went to leave and hooked the others anchor. The fellow from the cat that was in there came over and gave them some help unhooking each other. They were lucky and I think both got out without any damage but there were a couple of times we were not sure they would.
Audrey II Posted - May 28 2012 : 20:32:56
Back to work for me in the morning but if I finish early maybe I will take the jetski out for a ride and meet you but I'm not sure my sun burn would like that!
BenDiss Posted - May 28 2012 : 19:04:37
The weather missed us at Zachs. We had a few sprinkles and that was it. Left Freeport at 5 and arrived at The Boathouse at 7. Should be another beautiful night on the hook tonight.
Audrey II Posted - May 28 2012 : 16:02:32
We had a great time in Bowline 8 of us during the day and 6 spent the night absolutely beautiful day today. I had to head home early so my kid could get some homework done otherwise I would still be out there. For a season kick off I give this weekend a 9.5 I could have done without the light show but other then that it was perfect.
rommer Posted - May 28 2012 : 09:22:30
Taking a ride to Atlantic Highlands for some "reasonably" priced fuel. May stay for a rib dinner as well.

HOGAN Posted - May 28 2012 : 08:44:54
Quite a light show to the north of us last night. We got some rain, but not too bad. Sunny & hot today!
Billylll Posted - May 27 2012 : 22:22:57
No rain yesterday or today. The wind was 12 -15 knots out of the south all day today. It clouded up again towards the end of the day but no thunderstorms. Today I had finished the generator service which included cleaning the heat exchanger. Now it's once again running like the day it was installed and it's operating temp is right on the money.

Decided to make like a trawler/sailboat and took a four hour tour around the island of Manhattan this afternoon. It's amazing how much more you can see at that speed. What a relaxing trip. Will do again for sure.

BTW - Hogan your "favorite" marina is almost completely gone!

HOGAN Posted - May 27 2012 : 09:16:18
Today is supposed to be like yesterday, so if you go out, keep an eye on the sky!

We had a lobster feast last night, 40 or them suckers got eaten!
Audrey II Posted - May 26 2012 : 16:57:09
Maybe you will get lucky
rommer Posted - May 26 2012 : 16:52:23
A few thunder booms but still no rain.

BenDiss Posted - May 26 2012 : 16:29:37
Looks like its heading towards us in Zachs Bay
We're all buttoned up waiting for it.
Billylll Posted - May 26 2012 : 16:28:29
Down near Atlantic City it was sunny and breezy until 4PM now it looks like it might rain or storm. It was fairly windy out of the south all day but the wind has layed down for now.
