Posted - Aug 09 2007 : 13:52:22 I have a 2003 Sig. 260 Volvo Penta 5.7 Gi with a DP-S Drive. Looking at the Volvo Penta Prop Guide they list anywhere from a F4 to a F9. What would be the standard prop for this boat and how different would the performance be within that range? I primarily cruise Narragansett Bay with a couple trips to Block Island a year.
Thanks for any input,

Posted - Aug 14 2007 : 09:47:08 I agree TomKat. Looking back I was turning about 4900-5000 when I originally tested the boat. I'm going to stick with the F4's and I will test my WOT again.

Posted - Aug 13 2007 : 10:41:15 your wide open rpm's are already at the low end of the range for that engine. I wouldn't be thinking of adding any pitch or diameter. If you want better performance out of the hole and improved engine longevity than you may want to drop a size in pitch and bring your wide open rpm's a little higher, closer that is to the max rpm for your engine (probably 4800?). If not just go with the OEM's size. Contrary to some popular opinion you won't improve fuel economy by reducing rpm's, you'll just strain the engine and drive line more and reduce performance. Tom |

Posted - Aug 10 2007 : 18:49:06 I have a Merc 5.7 MPI (300 hp) with 24 pitch props. I am over-propped, but I like the cruise speed I get: 28-29 mph at 3200 rpm |

Posted - Aug 10 2007 : 09:46:26 OK. My eyes aren't what they used to be. Had the prop. at work and looked with some improved visual aids and found the markings. They are F4's, still curious if that is what other people are running in their 260 Signatures with 5.7 L Gi engines? If not, what type of performance are you getting with differnet prop's.?

Posted - Aug 10 2007 : 08:59:34 Hi Paul,
I'm think in the right range around 4400 RPM, talked with Chap. and they said the standard prop. the boat would have came with is the F4. I pulled the prop. and do not see any markings/part numbers anywhere, is there a measurement I can take to identify? Not sure any change in pitch would be appropriate and really looking to buy a new set and just don't want to mess up. Anyone reccommend any good places to buy duoprops? |
