I have had bellows problems, but unlike Merc. Volvo has stood up and took responsibility for their design errors. Could not be happier with Volvo Penta.

Glenn - It was a package deal offered by Volvo in 2000 and 2001. There were 500, 525, and 600 hp packages. The engines were built by Innovation, but used all of Volvo's systems and electronics (fuel coolers/recirculators, ECM's, shift interrupters, etc.) The extra drag came from the second prop and the fact that the drive could not be raised to the point of being semi-surface piercing (too much vibration). Its way more efficient at cruise (3800-4100 rpm) however, and that's where most boats spend their time...

CSpray,
Are the DPXs designed for 600 hp, or did you just try it anyway, and it worked out fine?

Why is it a couple mph slower than the Mercs?

Sounds like a nice rig.

I have a 2000 382 FasTech with 600 hp Volvo DPX's. A very rare bird. I give up a couple of mph to the Bravo boats, but I always come home on both engines. Would NEVER buy a Mercury product.

Formula has used Volvo I/Os for at least the past few years. They continue to use Merc, too. If you go high performance, it'll be Merc Racing series. I don't think Volvo I/Os has anything more than their 8.1 L 425 hp.

If you don't need the Racing series, I'd go with Volvo I/Os
