I have rebuilt several quadrajets on cars awhile ago and had a little knowledge in the basic skills to do so. When I had a carb that was bad on my boat I looked around for some videos on the net and couldn't find any. I did a bunch of research and rebuilt mt first marine carb. It worked out pretty well so having two engines I decided that I would rebuild the other one. A friend of mine asked if I would show him how to do it so I decided I would make a video. Remember that I am no expert and don't know all of the technical words and jargon that goes along with this rebuild but this has worked for me annd maybe it could help someone else.
The first set of four videos (almost 40 minutes long) shows the disassembly and cleaning of the carb. I will make the assembly videos pretty quick. I hope you like them...

Ran in to one problem. The hook for the needle should not be hooked in the holes. It needs to be hooked to the plate on the float closest to the float right in the middle. The hook should point to the back of the plate. The plate that I am talking about in the same one with the holes in it. Mine was floading out. Found a service bulletin on it. I changed the hook on the float and it works great.

I have twin 7.4 Merc. with Weber carb.'s. What is the differance between re-manufactored and rebuilt besides the cost. Thank Frank

Excellent. The best I have seen on a carb rebuild. I just did my first Quadrajet rebuild and definitely would have forgotten or messed up a couple of items had I not watched these videos.
Alpheus - The trick you asked for on the vacuum linkage is to let the slotted tap hang vertically and rotate the vacuum assembly until it lines up as you insert and once it connect rotate vacuum to attach. A piece of tape to hold the accelerator pump and choke link makes it easier to lower the air horn.

Always wanted to learn how to rebuild a carb and these videos were just the help I needed. I was a little squeamish about working on my own carbs so I bought an old marine Rochester Quadrajet on e-bay. Looks to be identical to my own. I purchased a rebuild kit and watched the videos as I went through the steps. I just finished and I'm proud and confident I have a good as new carb. Unfortunately I have no way to test it but I'm confident that I can do my own now.

Just A FYI. Save yourself some money by taking the number off the carb. You can buy a rebuild kit for it in any auto parts store.

Bruce- Just watched the whole series. That was a truly excellent video presentation of the whole process and should be a major help to any boaters here who would like to tackle this job themselves . Really nice of you to make that edifying video series and offer it here. I sure hope this will become a valuable new addition to the Mechanical How-To Articles or perhaps an Engines Forum "sticky."
