Thanks. |

Posted - Jun 16 2011 : 21:43:56 Absolutely nix on Seaport Marine. Holds the prizes for both the worst and most expensive marina I have ever stayed at. Unless they have done huge upgrades in the last two years (physical plant and personel) , avoid at all costs. Their only plus is proximity to town; but why not just stay at the Seaport itself if that's what you want?
Also +1 on Brewer"s Branford. Haven't taken my own boat there but visited a freind. My advice is go check all these places out first by car if you are a local. Since you like the Thimbles, for another fun non-marina site, try Hamburg Cove off the CT River. All moorings, very pretty and fun, especially if you have a dinghy.

Posted - Jun 14 2011 : 07:54:33 Regarding Mystic, I stayed at Mystic Marina a couple of years ago. Nice place with a pool. On left side right before RR bridge. Easy dink ride into the center of Mystic or can walk it in maybe 15min. Fixed docks but it's calm so a good nights sleep... |

Both are nice but as not to add much to your trip I would go to Capri in fact I'm heading there in a few weeks. If you do go to Louie's for dinner.

It was a pleasure meeting you, Sea Gull. Thank you again for the terrific recommendation! It was exactly what I was looking for and something I never would have thought of. And I can't say enough good thIngs about Katie, the Dockmaster. Despite it being their busiest weekend of the year, she happily accommodated my reluctant request for a slip change and I now have, dare I say, the finest view on the Patchogue River. Despite the size of this place, they somehow do manage to maintain a small, high-end marina feel. |

Ok now that I know here are my questions:
I am staying in Essex for two nights and then planning on going to saybrook and then onto Liberty landing. If I cancel Saybrook. What would be the best place to stay a night or two on my way west to Liberty Landing? On the Ct side of the Sound? Thanks Need response ASAP.
Or should I just go straight to Liberty Landing from Essex?
I made the run from Essex to Liberty Landing, probably traveling at an average of about 20 kts once out of the river, in about 4.5 hours. It also happened to be a perfect day. Norwalk could be a good stopover. If you simply want to add a nice harbor to your trip and it's not so much about distance, I really like Manhasset Bay (Brewer's Capri in particular). Your ride to Liberty will then be very short but then you may feel more free to really take it slow and enjoy the sights on the way instead of just thinking about getting there.

Wow staying two nights at Saybrook Point marina and based on the commenst it looked like I made a mistake. Too late to cancel so I guess I'm going. I heard lots of good things and never heard that its a rough night sleep there.
That's why you should always ask on BoaterEd! |

Another place with a resorty feel to it is the Brewer marina in Westbrook. They have a shuttle to take you shopping or to restaurants - or you can take your dinghy to Bills.
Thanks Sea Gull. I see on A/C you're also a fan of Brewer's Branford which has been recommended. Separate from it not being near anything, is it a nice enough place to comfortably chill for a few days, perhaps after a night at the Thimbles? Also, do you have a favorite marina in Mystic other than the Seaport itself? I've asked about this before... Seaport Marine (Noank''s other spot) always comes back as the place to stay, particularly as I prefer floating docks. |

Posted - Jul 21 2010 : 18:03:02 Long walk to Old Saybrook center, but once you get there it is nice. Maybe try Between the Bridges marina a little further up river? Still a long walk to town. |

Posted - Jul 21 2010 : 14:40:37 Long walk doesn't quite capture it.
Nice marina but anywhere from the bridge south gets a bit "rocky" with river traffic and winds.
There is a KILLER hot dog stand right at the street inside the marina, "Jack's". Its a popular stop for us on a nice day ride. |

Posted - Jul 21 2010 : 14:09:36 I picked up our new to me boat there last October. Very nice marina but the rolling was crazy and we were tied up on the inside near the parking lot. Spent the night being snap rolled in the forward cabin while my friend was in the rear cabin getting sloshed around. |

Posted - Jul 21 2010 : 11:05:14 Thanks for the feedback. I have spent time in Essex and loved it. Looking for other 'resort-like' places to try on the Ct side. Any other thoughts in that vein are appreciated. I have also done Norwich, Mystic and Clinton. |

Posted - Jul 21 2010 : 09:58:21 Easy in and out of the river. A bit rocky from river traffic if you are on the outside wall. Those docks are also fixed.
Clean place with a pool. I believe you acan walk to "town" but I was having a gout attack when were there so I did not.
5 miles more up the river and you are in Essex which is an alternative.
