I have always run the Cape Cod Canal heading south from Boston harbor. This trip I need to stop in Chatham on my way to Nantucket. I have not been on the "outside" of the Cape there.

I am running a 30' down east express. Any issues out there I should be aware of?

Strongly recommend getting a reliable update on the bar. Spent 8 years running boats out of there - and I wouldn't attempt it myself having not been across it in a couple years. Even on a flat clam day, there are some very, very shallow spots, and the 'channel', if it can be called that, changes so often that one day the flags might mean safe water, the next they might mean safe water 50 yards south, the next day a flag might be missing or off station. Would be worth a few minutes to call the Chatham Harbormaster or Wharfinger to get an update. If memory serves me, which it occasionally does not, it's (508)945-5185.

Ty mates. Will be stopping into Pleasant Bay for three days and then down to Nantucket. I figured it was a sea and weather call running outside like that.

Planning to duck into the Chatham Harbor side or the Stage Harbor side? If you're planning on coming in across the bar, I'd definitely get in touch with someone local before you do.

Paul:

Once you skirt PTown, there is nothing! Check weather and sea conditions as there is no place to tuck-in. Make sure you have up-to-date information on the entrance to Chatham.
