"Restore The Delta to Launch Campaign Against Peripheral Tunnel:

Ed Begley, Jr. Narrates "Over Troubled Waters"

Screenings set for Sacramento, Stockton & Los Angeles

STOCKTON, CA - Restore the Delta (RTD) announced today its release of "Over Troubled Waters," a documentary film narrated by Ed Begley, Jr. RTD announced an Aug. 8 Sacramento premier and screenings in Northern and Southern California.

"Governor Brown is about to reignite California's water war, and it appears we'll be refighting the old battle over a Peripheral Canal, but this time it's a tunnel. The governor is set to propose two 33-foot-diameter peripheral tunnels that would carry part of the Sacramento River's flow underneath the Delta for 37 miles to the California Aqueduct. The total cost is unknown; the financing unsecured, and the only certainty is water customers will pay billions and billions in increased rates," said Restore the Delta Executive Director Barbara Barrigan-Parrilla. "It is disappointing that the governor is preparing to throw himself behind a 19th century approach to a 21st century water problem. Gov. Brown lost this battle when voters rejected the canal in 1982. His retooled peripheral canal, now costing more than $50 billion in today's dollars, would likely meet the same fate. There's a better solution. California can divert less water from the Delta and still meet its water needs by investing in water efficiency, water recycling, new technologies, and improved groundwater and storm water management."

"Over Troubled Waters," Restore the Delta's long-awaited documentary, narrated by Ed Begley Jr., will have its premier at Sacramento's Crest Theater on August 8, 2012. Many special guests will be in attendance. A second Northern California screening will be held on August 20, 2012 at the Empire Theater in Stockton. Congressman Jerry McNerney will kick off that evening's festivities.

The Southern California premiere will be held on August 28th at the Landmark Theater in Westwood. Ed Begley Jr. will be the honored special guest at this first Southern California screening.

Tickets will be on sale via the Restore the Delta website starting July 17, 2012 for $10.00. DVD's will be made available to community groups for screenings over the next few weeks, and will be made available for sale shortly thereafter.

Restore the Delta is a 7000-member grassroots organization committed to making the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta fishable, swimmable, drinkable, and farmable to benefit all of California. Restore the Delta works to improve water quality so that fisheries and farming can thrive together again in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta"

I'm glad they "sold out" for the showing. I can't make these showings as I work in Fremont.
I did buy a dvd and I am sending it to my relatives in SOCAL for them to see.
They have no idea where there water comes from and have no idea as to the problems of the delta.
The sad part is as long as their swimming pools have water they don't care.

"Over 350 people turn out for 'Over Troubled Waters' screening

by Dan Bacher

A crowd of over 350 people turned out for the Stockton premiere of Restore the Delta's "Over Troubled Waters" documentary at the Empire Theatre on Monday, August 20.

"We are planning a second screening in September for those who couldn't get a ticket," said Barbara Barrigan-Parrilla, Executive Director of Restore the Delta. "Thank you to all our loyal supporters, and thank you to Caleen Sisk from the Winnemem Wintu Tribe, Congressman Jerry McNerney, Supervisor Larry Ruhstaller, Assemblymember Bill Berryhill, Mayor Ann Johnston, and Council Member Susan Eggman for speaking, leading, and uniting our communities for the fight at hand."

Reporter Alex Breitler covered the event in the Stockton Record.

The next screening of "Over Troubled Waters" will take place Aug. 28 in Los Angeles at the Landmark Theater at 7:00 p.m. There will be a special appearance by Ed Begley, Jr. However, Restore the Delta is hoping to have another screening in Stockton, as well as showings in Fresno and the Bay Area."
