Posted - Sep 16 2012 : 20:29:43 Thanks to all who shared thoughts on the Motor Yacht but after viewing both, I am convinced that I like the Sedan Bridge better. if anybody has any helpful hints or thoughts on this boat, I always welcome the advise. I see that they changed the size from 48 to 50 in around 2005. Was there any design changes as well or did they just change the number? And i believe but anot sure the 52 is a diffenr boat. Correct? Thanks again. |

Great research.
The top speed is suspect as well. My boat has 660's weigh's 5000# more and my top speed is 38mph. Cruise is 30mpg burning 44 gph. I can't imagine lugging the motor at 20 mph. Way too slow for these big 12 liter motors IMHO.
+1 660hp
Should run more like 25 Knts at cruise I have a dockmate with one & 660 cummins, says he cruises at 27knts |

Posted - Nov 20 2012 : 08:53:05 It's all just info. The only review I will take to heart is mine. Quite frankly, I don't think you can go wrong with a Silverton or Searay. It's all personal preference. |

Let me guess the guy who told you this owns the 44' of the same model? Nice guy and very knowledgeable but I have been on this boat and I have to say it is on my short list. In fact it is the only boat on my list at this time! I'm very happy with what I have but at some point I what like to move up to the 48' of course I may have to win the Lottery first. |

Posted - Sep 17 2012 : 08:35:40 Certain years on these boats had balsa core saturation issues.
A guy on my dock had the problem and ended up donating the boat to charity because the cost to repair was too high and the resale was pathetic.
He owns a newer 56' now and is happy.
The newer boats do not have the problem I was told.

Posted - Sep 17 2012 : 08:05:24 The 480 Sedan Bridge (480DB) was in production from 1998 through 2004. It was changed very little during that run, but some of the changes include the square-cornered hard-top being replaced by a more rounded one, the swap of the salon sliding door from starboard to port, TV cabinet changes, salon and bridge HVAC re-work, misc trim and feature updates etc. Available engines included DD 6V-92's, Cat 3196, Cummins QSM-11 and MAN 700's. My favorite aspect of the 480DB, aside from what I think are clean, good looks, is the fact that visibility from the helm is just about perfect. It makes it seem like a much smaller boat than it is.
The 500 Sedan Bridge came out of a fresh mold in 2005 to replace the 480. The general layout remained the same, but the finishes were in the newer style. The 3rd stateroom has a smaller feel than that in the 480, but it has regular bunks instead of the odd perpendicular configuration. The galley became a step-down, which one could also argue makes the salon & galley area feel larger.
The 52 Sedan Bridge (52DB) is the re-named 500DB, but there were some tweaks to that too, most notably the galley moving a stop closer to the salon level (freeing some space in the 3rd stateroom), and a re-work of the upper transom assy. |

Posted - Sep 17 2012 : 07:26:03 Thanks. I think the QSM 11 is the popular enginge for this model and I have heard good things so far.I'm going to look at 42/44 but not sure if that is anough of a jump up for me. Besides, I got the Admiral's OK on the 48/50 and IMHO, it's best to seize the moment. |

Posted - Sep 17 2012 : 06:32:20 To Dave point about engine choices, a lot of the 48SB's came with Cat 3196's and a good deal of them had catastrophic failures. If equipped with the Cats make sure all updates were done & done right I have these engines in my boat and they were replace with new after 3 years, I like them a lot but do oil analysis regularly. The 48 also came with Cummins QSM 11's and I have heard only good about the motors - there's a bunch of the 48's at my marina, one at my dock with the QSM's, the guy loves the boat

Posted - Sep 17 2012 : 05:05:31 Like this boat alot, though a little too big for where I boat. Do you need all that room? I think the 420/440 are nice. The 450 is awesome!
I never really like SeaRay layouts but the more I look, the more I like.
I am not ready yet, but in a few years after used prices drop more, I am gonna look 440/450.

Posted - Sep 16 2012 : 21:13:55 Do some home work on the motors they have used different motors over the years and you may want to decided what package you are most comfortable with and they start your search. I would research the different motor options and then kick this around at boat diesel dot com. These boats can get costly to maintain and you want to make sure you are starting with the best configuration you can.
I love this boat and as I have mentioned it is the only boat on my radar for me as an upgrade but this is still some time off. |

Posted - Sep 16 2012 : 20:58:19 I like this boat. Nice layout, lots of space, nice cockpit, great if you have the jetski lift. 3rd stateroom a little small but still nice, even if limited ventilation in cabins but I'd be happy owning one. The 52 is a different boat- other than that I think the switch was just a name change.
