Hello guys, I ahve a friend that bought a 05 310 Chap(5.7s with comp drives) he claimed he say 50 knots during his sea trail. Is this possible in this boat? the boat is not due here for another week, so I can see for myself. I found it hard to believe that a 12K pound boat would run that fast. Thanks Jay

The numbers seem about right, really. I been on the 310 and we ran with 5.7's dual-props top end was around 48-50 knots GPS.

JD Powers did a test on a 310 (http://www.jdpower.com/boats/articles/Chaparral-310-Signature), and their top speed was 44.7MPH (that's 38.8 knots). This was on a 310 with 260HP mercruisers with Bravo IIIs.

I think your friend is thinking wishfully.

Sounds like the speedo is WAAAAY off. My 2005 310 has twin Volvo 5.7's with comp drives and I hit a top speed of 46MPH via GPS. He is claiming to have gone 57.6 MPH (over 10 miles/hr faster than me)....yeah right.

Mine weighs in at just under 12,000 lbs. and with 350's and alpha 1's I've had it at 50.8 mph by GPS.

I can see hitting 50mph with my setup but 57mph is impossible.

Me thinks some people don't know the different between MPH and knots. No way this boat does 50 knots with 5.7's.

I have the same setup. 33MPH at 3500 RPM is cruising. Tops out in the mid 40's. This boat will not do 50, unless it was stripped of most everything on it. Great boat though. We love it.

pgilbert, I could be off in what I saw sunday as far as rpms and speed. I love the 310 after spending time on it. I spend some time on a 06 350 chap yesterday and I like the 310 BETTER. $$ for $$ I love the 310! The 310 is big enough and light enough to run good and ride good. The 350 had 8.1s and you can hear it sucking the sides out of the fuel tanks! It is not that much bigger than the 310 in the cabin(for another 125K)!

Maybe he meant 50 Kilometers per hour. ;)

(Sorry, for you non-metric types, that's about 30 mph.)
