Another rainy weekend in Paradise...
I was at least going to take the kayak out to ride the surf but Tropical Storm BS or whatever it's called has turned out to be a non-event. Can't dive 'cause rain run-off has made the water too murkey. Can't mow the lawn - and why would I want to on a weekend anyway? Starting a thread on becoming grumpy old men has already been done. I'm all dressed up like the freekin' Gorton's Fisherman on the front of the frozen fish stick box - and I've got nowhere to go. What are you doing on the water this weekend? Please post some photos if you have 'em because it's as close as we're going to get to boating in the Northeast.
Thank you for your support!
Steve

Sitting on boat right now contemplating going out and tossing a line or two. Raing but wind is non existant and the bay looks like a mill pond.

My other option is to go home and do some actual work.

Okay that noise you heard was the port engine firing.

Have a good day all

Bill - following the refurbish link - looks fantastic! Knotty - could be worse, grumbling in your own Private Idaho - got dental floss? Love Zappa! ITK - head north and get a pizza and fine red wine at Alfornos! Aholst1 - my heart goes out to you. Rommer - you're my idol.

My wife and I have been down since Thursday. Pretty boring right now. I installed a new toy my Ericsson W35 (phone line/modem/4 port switch/WiFi). I'm surfing on the web with it right now. I intend to go out later today when the tide comes up. It's on off light rain here in South Jersey now yesterday it was heavy rain and winds topped at 35 mph. I'm ready for my 3rd cup of Keurig coffee.

Think I should wander over to Pascals to assist with the food improvements. I have been known to eat a meal with the occasional errant asparagus not lined up exactly parallel so I'm sure I could help.

I think Pascal's candle setting could use some assistance from the team here though. Perhaps Charlie could weld up a fixture to set that candle upright. BillD could, no doubt, supply some better sausages.
I believe we even have a rutabaga specialist around here someplace; he could really impress them yachty types with his dramatic presentation of that exotic vegetable.

Yup all in all Pascal should be looking to his BE friends, experts all, for their guidance in these important matters.

We're having one of those days here in WI as well... Was supposed to take the boat to Chicago for the weekend but its only 60 degrees and the 20kt blow from the north is forecasted to produce 6-7 footers on Lake Michigan... Decided we should probably stay in port... Things back at the house to do but just can't bring myself to do a "winter" job (painting a room) when the boat is still in the water... May be time for a cocktail.

We just finished a 4-5+ hour deep cleaning spree, including many loads of laundry. Now thinking about heading down to boat to relax. Our lake is starting to be a bummer. We're now at the lowest lake level since 1964. We're now at 622' MSL. 681' MSL is full. It just refuses to rain around here, and when we get a little, the lawn greens up for a few days, then foes back to brown. Most of Central Texas is now in fairly strict water use restrictions.

Bring the rain!!!

I spoke with my friend and our chef/chief stew who does mostly freelance work. She said she would be happy to work with you and Naomi on food presentation and setting up and running interior service on a charter yacht in general when you get back to Miami. She has worked on many if not most of the top charter yachts up to 170 feet or so.

I could send along her resume and contact information if you would like?

We always try and visit the Maryland Renaissance Festival on their first open weekend each year, so that's what we did today (too crowded later in the season). Tomorrow we'll head out on the Chesapeake through Labor Day (we've got the week off). Toasty today with high humidity and temps in the upper 80's. The weather people claim it will be in the 70's most of this coming week. Quite nice for some anchoring.

Started working at 5 AM cuz it was cool enuff to finish clearing the diveway to get a boat in to pull the engine for a swap for a friends boat. 80* by 8AM. Humid. No wind. Went to the boat to help strip the SS from the hull. Then started wiring in a new digital tach and filter in my boat. Sweating like a pig. Got to 98 degrees yesterday and hotter today.

Got a new advance/tach/timing light and tested it against a shop tach and new dash tach. Perfect. Test advance on new ignition. Sweating like two pigs. No wind. Can't take it. Went home and slept off the heat of the afternoon.

So how was the second half of everyone's weekend? Weather turned better here - sunny, gusty winds and swells about 5 or 6 feet but we went out anyway. Found this around the point - a 30-footer that broke free during the remnants of TS Danny and ended up on the rocks in Biddeford Pool, a normally very protected place.

I just wish that I could afford a different wardrobe...

:-) the challenging things about these dishes is that the guests needed gluten free and sugar free food! it's a little tricky to adapt but even my grandmother's alsacian pies came out very good using gluten free flour and agave syrup as a replacement for sugar...

about Danny, i heard a conversation on 16 about a 25' power boat found adrift in nantucket sound, apparently broke free from a mooring. pretty odd because the winds never got that bad. We were at the north wharf in edgartown (real nice town btw), for both fri and sat night and it really never blew over 15 to 20 kts. went to Fairhaven today to drop off the guest then on to Fallmouth to refuel and finally back here on the mooring in nantucket. Fallmouth is a neat little harbor and VERy good fuel prices, 2.69 all incl. at all 3 docks. Picked Mcdougal, nice clean dock with their own lines ready and they were even given out free icecream!

2.69 is just a few cents higher than the fuel barge in Newport, good deal. Fairhaven Marina was 2.80 and Hyanis 2.89...

Well, you guest are only fooling themselves. Because agave syrup is mostly made up of fructose. Which is a form of sugar.

"Agave syrup consists primarily of fructose and glucose. One source[4] gives 92% fructose and 8% glucose; another[5] gives 56% fructose and 20% glucose. These differences presumably reflect variation from one vendor of agave syrup to another. Due to its fructose content and the fact that the glycemic index only measures glucose levels, agave syrup is notable in that its glycemic index and glycemic load are lower than many other natural sweeteners on the market. [6].

However, the extremely high percentage of fructose (higher than that of high-fructose corn syrup) can be deleterious and can trigger fructose malabsorption, metabolic syndrome[7], hypertriglyceridemia, decreased glucose tolerance, hyperinsulinemia, and accelerated uric acid formation.[9][10] Low-carb diet advocate Dr. Michael Eades M.D. advises to "avoid it [Agave syrup] like death".[11]"

well, i'm just a captain... not a nutritionist! apparently they get sick on sugar, honey and molasses but not on the agave sugar... so what do i know... i did notice that Agave syrup has 4 times more calories than regular sugar, therefor i'm not ready to abandon natural cane sugar!

although... since it's nearly impossible to find sugar cane syrup here in the US I will probably use Agave Syrup for the traditional West Indian "Ti-punch" :-) which for those who have never had it, is just a couple of tblsp. of sugarcane syrup with rum, and optionally a little squeeze of lemon. a nice twist to the ti-punch is to let tropical fruits soak in the rum for a few weeks, either banana, passion fruit, pineapple, mango, guava, etc...

Why does this thread keep making me hungry?

Back to boating, we had atotally flat 4-hour ride from just south of Baltimore to Solomons, MD. Sorry to all you NE folks who've had a bad season. It's been quite nice in the Chesapeake this year. We'll stay in Solomons for a few days as it's going to blow a little bit (15-20k, gusts to 25) for a day or two, and then we'll move on. I very much like a cruise with no destination. And once we get back, the best boating season on the Chesapeake starts; Fall!
