Hello all, wondering what the going rates are in your area for in the water scrubbing/cleaning of bottoms. Do they charge by the foot or hour? Thanks, Mark

I pay $2.00 per foot.
I don't see how they do it for that so I'm not complaining.

My 34ft costs $50 to clean. In the summer we clean it twice a month. In the winter only once a month. Lots of divers available at our marina.

I pay $100 for a 53' and get it done once a month. But, since I moved to my new slip behind our new house, I discovered these little Placostomas-like fish that are doing a pretty good job at least at the water line. I heard this crazy noice that sounded like a breaker tripping. I looked and looked and couldn't find the source until I caught a glimpse of one as it let go of the boat and made the breaker tripping sound. It's probably sucking my bottom paint off, but at least there isn't as much crud building up on the water line. Love the new slip.

Just for grins at the lake this weekend I asked. They want $300 (yes $300(if I didn't say -- $300) to clean the bottom of my 21' bowrider. Yeah, that is $14.25 a foot. When I asked if he was kidding he got offended and told me he couldn't get to it until the middle of next month if I was interested.

If your boat has access to running in both salt water and fresh water, it is easy and fairly cheap to clean the bottom. All it costs is the fuel to run from fresh water to or from salt water to fresh.
You may need to take a brush to the waterline, but even the transom around the drive will get cleaner. My boat was stored in the [semi]freshwater Delta. During the summer I'd run her down toward the bay until I reached salt water, then I'd run her back home again. All that stuff that grows in the fresh water gets killed and sloughs off in salt water!
Of course if you have barnacles, that is a tougher issue. I doubt my method would work on those.
John, what lake? Tahoe? everything is expensive up there!!!! Just tow it down to the bay and drop her in for a day.....

Lake Berryessa. Can't imagine what they would charge me in Tahoe. I clean it myself about once a month or so. Gives me a chance to look at things. Besides I like cleaning my boat. Of course I may not feel that way once I finally trade up.

price per foot is generally reflective of the amount of growth on the bottom. the more frequent you have it cleaned the less time/energy the diver is going to spend on it.

I have my own SCUBA gear and was thinking of doing mine myself. It has never been an issue for me before. I use an ablative paint. I haven't be able to use my boat much this year. I used it on Sunday and could not get above 4300 RPM. My normal WOT is close to 5000. SO I figure I have some growth on the bottom. What is the procedure for cleaning the bottom. Is it just a matter of scrubbing? What do you scrub it with?

Lots of elbow grease and a brush if you're in the water. On the hard a power washer and some good hull cleaner usually does the trick!
