Got a lot of stuff done last winter.

This winter -

Replace holding tank - not going to be fun.
Fix the rub rail damage from when my stern line broke
Fix the hull scratches and scrapes from when my stern line broke
Replace spot light
Find loose connection in my horn wiring that allows it to work each time I test it but not when I need to use it (I keep a air horn handy)

Rick, let me know what you come up with on your rub rail replacement. It looks like I have a 10' secition of rub rail I can remove and replace so it shouldn't be too bad. But Like you, I only have a few inches that are bad so I too am wondering about replacing a smaller section. On the other hand, maybe it is no harder to replace the 10' section as it would be to replace about 2'

Rick why get rid of the generator especially since your adding the 12,000 BTU AC unit?
I am curious generators really come in handy especially if you have AC.

1) Remove rub rail on port side and re-bed/seal leaking hull/deck mounting screws
2) Rip out rotten wood in cabin (due to leaks caused by #1) measure, cut, West System epoxy seal new wood and replace
3) try and reinstall 26 year old rub rail back in place.
4) possibly cut in a new flush mount deck hatch and install raw water washdown system.
5) replace 26 year old horn that is barely audible anymore.

Must be the season of the rub rail or something.

Bill, the generator has been a thorn in my side. I bought and installed it and probably ran if all of 45 minutes this past year (all of which was for testing). It's an older unit, 1800 rpms... but very heavy... 330lbs or so. It causes my boat to list to port quite a bit. In fact, I will removing barnacales from my gel coat where the boat listed about an inch above the anti foul paint. I firmly believe it was one of the contributing factors to the two water ingestions I had this year. If and when I replace it, It will be with a small one... something considerably lighter. Plus, it makes my boat a dog when my two kids and wife are sitting aft and I try to get up on plane quick, the extra 330lbs is really felt.

Here's what I will do to my boat this winter. Put it on the trailer, take it to Florida, put it in the canal in back of our winter rental and fish every day in the ocean or bay depending on the weather. Works for me.

I think I covered all my winter projects in one nut last week with a new port motor :-)

Actually I do have a few things to do over the next four months. In no particular order.

Replace the lift struts on the wet bar.
Remove the gauge panels and clean the contacts and connections
Replace the battery charger
Install fresh water flush on both motors and genny
Pull the after cooler and heat exchanger from starboard motor and have them cleaned
Flush the antifreeze in the starboard motor.
Rebuild my windlass
Pull and clean all of the bilge pumps
Clean the bilges

"Wet bar"??? Where is that?

I pulled my genny, need new mounts and drip tray. Oil analysis came back with some concerns that I will have addressed.

The area where the ice maker, fridge, sink and counter are. While I am not quite certain the purpose of the lift up counter is for, when i put them up they creep back down. It is a cheap fix boat wise so i will replace them.

Since we are still on the boat the projects are ongoing. Yesterday I noticed a tiny rub wear pinhole in the discharge line from the Marine Elegance head to the holding tank, I replaced the hose and added a chafe gaurd problem solved. I replaced my LCD HD TV in the salon with a TFT LED 12VDC unit made by Jensen huge improvement in picture quality and it only draws less than 30 watts at 12VDC about 1/3rd of the current draw of the older style LCD TV. I installed a new Marinco high quality
RG-6 cable to the Direct TV KVH Dome after the old cable stopped working. I sent my Wave WiFi EC/ER/HP WiFi box and had them upgrade the bridge and AP cards and the firmware/software so I now have the favorites list and the AP portion is now G compliant.
My "to do list" is pretty short. Mainly maintenance and upkeep stuff. If the boat doesn't sell new carpet, recovering the softgoods and soda blasting and painting the bottom are on the pre-launch list.

My GPS gave up the other day, so I am going to flush mount install a new Garmin 720S. Then I said, what the heck, I need to install a NEMA 2000 with it and I have to redo the whole electronics panel to make it fit right, so I am going all in. GMI 10 digital display, GDL 40 WX, VHF 300 black box radio, fuel sensor, etc. Should be fun!

Big boat is getting new head and holing tank lines, should be a fun one.

Just picked up a 1997 20' Boston Whaler dual console which needs to be polished up and brought back to my standards. I am also swapping the carb'd outboard with an EFI unit. Doing that in my truck repair shop over the winter. Looking forward to it.

Once you have installed the NMEA2000 network you will never turn back. I even have a pair of Garmin VHF200 radios one with the wired remote great stuff but I use the NAVIONICS AIS Class B NMEA2000 transponder. You might want to look at the GXM-51 WX receiver instead of the GXM-40.

Changes for me include:

*Recore existing swim platform (already pulled),quotes to repair existing run $6-800.00, w/new anti skid sprayed over topside, considering installing flexi-teak or some such variant. Will add new platform ladder and possibly a different transom step, hate the original setup.

*Upgrade genny from existing Onan 1 lung, 3.0kw (3600rpm no load!!) to Onan 4.5kw 2cyl (1800rpm) (switch-over completed already, final wiring upgrades to be completed in spring.)

*Sent saturated bow pulpit for recore w/swim platform, will service windlass (capstan) over winter, and add new chain and rode.

*Upgrade head to Marine Elegance w/new sanitation hoses.

*Install new main hatch w/Ocean Shade screen/blind.

*Minor top restitching, and full canvas waterproofing.

Much less to do this year compared to last.

We are going to have the bottom stripped and repainted.

Either replace the interior carpet or redo the inside with some sort of synthetic teak material.

New cushions for the fly bridge and possible a new captains chair.

New blower as it started to squeak at the end of the season.

Probably a new Internet tv in the salon, but have not picked out a unit yet.

That's it for this year.

Total upgrade of charging system. New golf cart house batteries, new starter battery, Iota charger, inverter, battery switches, buss bars, Raymarine E7 chartplotter, Raymarine x10 autopilot. Have some minor plumbing things with the washdown pump and A/C pump that will need neatening up to make room. That will fill up the next 3 months, I think.

Im finally going to finish working on the small 17 footer. Im going to upgrade the GPS / fish finder, update the VHF, Compass, and stereo. Also, have to replace the small windshield, its cracking and doesnt look all that good.

I have two trailers that I use for that boat. One trailer is used during the summer has guides to help center the boat, and the other trailer is a winter storage trailer. Both trailers need work. The summer trailer needs a new front center cross member, and a new winch. The winter trailer needs lights, tires, and a winch. Even though its a winter trailer, its still on the road being used.

The big boat, I am looking to sell. I want out from the big boat, want to get a diesel trawler. Have my eye on an older Mainship...

The small boat I will be working on late nights at the garage when the cars are out so thatll make the nights go by quicker, or so I help.

Good luck to all on your projects!

1) have props removed and repaired from the log I hit.
2) replace broken trim tab cylinder, I`m assuming from the log I hit.
3)check shafts for straitness because the vibration after the log strike seemed to be a lot worse than the minor prop damage would cause, (crossing my fingers on this one)
4) Horn stopped working
5) replace port windshield wiper motor as the shaft will no longer hold a wiper on it.
The maybe list... I`m due for an GPS upgrade, but I wouldn`t know where to start....ice maker hasn`t worked in two years, I hardly used it but it was nice to have....

I upgraded my GPS/Chartplotter this summer.
My plan for the winter was to put in a new starboard motor. I wound up repowering the boat with two brand new Mercruiser motors. The job is done and I can't wait until Spring to take it for a run.

Not too much this year

Finish the refinish of the teak swim platform (mostly completed last winter, I needed to let the sum at it this summer to bleach it out)
Change duckbills in vacuum pump
New tint on cabin windows
Try to buff out enclosure windows, maybe replace, but with oldest starting college next year, I may live with them rolled up :)

if I want to start something big - varnish interior teak walls/cabinets/doors, sure would keep me busy...

Glad you started this thread, let's check back in the spring, and see how we all did. Here's my list, boat is about 10 miles from my house, so I have a shot at getting some work done this year. Many of these were on my list last year, but boat was 75 miles away, so not much got done.

Boat 1.
Remove window A/C unit, rebuild bulkhead, or maybe put in window in where the unit used to be.
install marine A/C
replace cockpit deck - maybe just two spongy sections, or maybe all of it.
install head, holding tank, etc.
refinish exterior teak.
rebed some leaking windows.
patch up some spots on the hull.
i really need to sew some new covers for the interior cushions; sadly I don't know how to sew.
port engine has fuel problems, consensus here is broken pickup - see what can be done about that.
replace exhaust gaskets.

Boat 2.
Snap in carpet has to be replaced.
Vinyl seats need some work.
