Hi,
I have the Kohler 7.3E genny, from year 2000. It always starts hard when cold, starts right up if shut down and warm. Is there an anti-siphon valve for fuel for these that might remedy the issue?
Thanks!

You are not getting siphon problems. There is a solenoid valve that keeps the fuel shut off when not in use and under certain trouble conditions.Willing to bet you have a plug problem, choke problem, carb problem or the cylinder heads are carboned up due to inadequate load while running.

It is not a plug problem, I changed them mid summer last season after it was shutting down after running a while. Plugs cured the shutting down issue, but it still started hard when cold.

Carb or FI? My W'beke carb gives me fits cold. I was told it's because no fuel in the bowl due to evaporation.

YMMV.

Its carb'd. I am heading to the boat now to take a few measurements for upcoming projects, I may consider pulling the carb off and bringing it home to get rebuilt.

90% of these genny's 5E and 7.3E always start on the second attempt specially on cold weather. Carburetor rebuild is not a solution just replace it. I doubt is carb problem. Chokes yes I replaced a bunch of them. On the bottom of the cup there is the "anti-Diesel" solenoid if you have water or other type of fuel will shut the genny down.. You can clean and reassemble. But that's a common issue on cold weather. But if after start runs and when you restart runs on 1st attempt. I won't bother.

Thanks, I'm glad I did not pull the carb off today, it was cold in the boat and hard to get motivated to get much done.
I will order a new choke for it and replace it before trying anything else.
