You guys ripped apart somebody for praising some marina in Freeport, and then you removed his post. Yet every year we all have to hear from a small group of you about how wonderful this detailing company is and what great work that canvas company in Copiague does. Do you get discounts every time you mention these businesses? In that case, I feel that Tony from Squiggys Marine Detailing is the best and Trevor from True Blue Canvas is fantastic. If we are going to endorse a couple of businesses than we should be allowed to compliment them all!

ADMIRALTY,
Please feel free to endorse any company you feel through your experiences does a great job. (boating related, and not a competitor to boatfix, the owner of this sites company). There is a fine line of sharing a good experience about a local vendor you use and posting a "commercial ad". The Freeport Marina post was an ad. The poster of that thread could have simply posted:
I dock at ABC Marina in Freeport, great place, great amenities, if anyone is interested in keeping their boat there this season give them a call. Also, when I see a RO # that is fairly new, and see that they have not posted anything other than promoting a business, it does raise suspicion on their motives of joining here.
PS We are all boaters here, getting a heads up on a local vendor benefits us all (good or bad). The moderators here have rules to follow that the owner Les, wants enforced and this what we agreed to do to help him and make this a better site for all of us.
Hope this clears this up, if not feel free to email me Walter (at) Valentinesystems.com

Walter,
As an FYI, while the post was a bit over the top, that poster is a marina customer.
I think Admiralty is just confused by the unnatural love Rob has for a detailer and others have for a canvas guy.;)

I used to post about the Long Island Yacht Club on how great they were. I was an officer of the club and that could have been taken as promoting a marina for my own benefit of getting members. I got ribbed often from my fellow RO’s, but Les seemed to let it go. I did get kicked off for a while for promoting a boating / travel related web site that I own and still do. I learned my lesson and with a bit of pleading and help from our current moderators I was let back on. As Walter stated there is a fine line, but I do feel a warning shot over the bow should be given before banish.
P.S. I did say how great the LIYC “WAS” don’t ask me now. I am very happy at my no frills marina, Babylon Marine.

ADMIRALTY, Walter pretty much summed it up. We are all here to help each other. Same way if someone has a bad experience this is a place to express ur dis-satisfaction so others dont go tru it. There is a wealth of knowledge here. The idea is to use it and gain from it. If u still think we have a problem email Walter or myself. Also look at ur RO # and look at everyone elses. They have been around A LONG time. BOATEREDS one giant family unless ur name happens to be BOB .
All the best

I've used Rob from Marine Fuel Direct (631-467-2145)several times and have always been satisfied. His stuff is fresh in the trunk from the terminal just about every day. Price is usually better than on the water too. Not sure if your marina will let him come in or not though. You can always call and ask him. He seems to be all over Long Island and should be able to tell you. I'd be a little hesitant to buy on the water this early in the season. There is a good chance that the stuff has been sitting in those tanks for months now.

Gene from Rising Tide is also a great guy, and tends to cover western Nassau more than the other two outfits on LI that do this, so you might consider him too.

From time to time I also use Gene from Rising Tide. I first was considering Direct Marine. But some members at the LIYC was using Rising and when I went over to Babylon Marine they were also but there I have no choice.

Andy, do I detect a bit of poor experience with Babylon Marine ? I have to admit that I have heard good and bad stories about Babylon Marine. In my case I have always had good dealings with Charlie and staff. He has a bunch of very loyal customers who keep their boat there, and there must be a reason for that.
But if you are expecting a BS all smiles owner who will yes a customer to death, this is the wrong place. He can be a bit gruff, but if you get to know him, you will find him to be a straight shooter and fair. However, he first takes care of his dock customers before outsiders.
I still have all 11 of my fingers...

I have heard good things about Rising Tide as well, Direct Marine fuel gives a discount to BE members, Rob is a member here so maybe he will chime in. Those that know the owner of Rising Tide should tell him to join BE.
I have had great experiences with Charlie fro C&D Marine in Copiague. Very fair price, always says what he says he will do, super clean on your boat and very knowledgeable. His wife works the office and she is a pleasure to deal with. I hope he can work on diesel :)
