How do you visually tell if your risers need replacment or is it a water flow test? Same for the manifolds. Thanks.

You can't effectively view them unless they are obviously bad. Best to replace on a schedule. Cleaning them to get more life is a super way to ruin an engine.

Water flow test can tell you a multitude of potential problems.

Best to replace at safe periods according to your type of boating...not when you start blowing steam.

Do they still make an aftermarket manifold and riser for the 1989 OMC 351 engine. If not, surely there has to be some type of retrofit. Any ideas? Thanks.

They still make the manifolds/risers for the 351 but there is only one style. The kind with the rectangular riser mating surface. People have complained of uneven clamping with that design.

That reminds me, I want to call Al Prisco and get him over to the boat with his Thermal Imager. THIS sounds like an easy way to tell if the manifolds/risers are working properly.
