2 seasons ago I treated my boat canvas with a waterproofing product(not sure of the exact name). It worked well but whenever it rained, the black canvas would bleed on the white gelcoat. Does anyone have a suggestion for a product to treat/enhance waterproofing canvas, that will no bleed?

Are you sure its from the canvas? Or is it just water marks? Everyboat gets the black streaks

The boats at my marina get black streaks because the marina is a couple hundred feet from an Interstate highway bridge. Soot and tire dust land on the boats.
Here is a link to Sunbrella's canvas care instructions:

They recommend 303 High Tech Fabric Guard for waterproofing.

We are a X3 on 303. We. also have black canvas, and as mentioned above, that is dirt/soot washing off. I think we are in a glide path for BWI airport, and I believe that causes mine.

It was worse following the treatment for sure. . We are not in area of much air pollution. I will try the 303, everyone seems to like it. Thanks

I wouldn't use Thompsons on Sunbrella as they do not recommend it, but perhaps it works on straight cotton canvas? It's just a silicone-based product. Nothing too harsh.
I'm going to be a +4 on 303 products. My 9 year old Sunbrella is still going strong as are my 9 year old clear panels ("Isinglass"). I 303-treat the Sunbrella only when it starts to leak. I 303 the vinyl every 30 days. NOTE: My enclosure is up 365 days per year in MD (1 month of that in FL/Bahamas).
Rusty - same here in Rock Creek/Pasadena. It's got the be the planes and the coal power plant. I've been other places with all kinds of rain and no black streaks at all. Sometimes, even in Pasadena, if the wind is from a different direction, no black streaks either.
To the OP - before you treated your canvas I think it's possible the dirt was working itself into the fabric. After you treated it the dirt ran off and made the streaks on your hull.

I always soaked mine down with "Scotchgard".
However I agree the "bleed" is soot washing off from whatever cause. My boat is covered with it this time of year. I'm not looking forward to scrubbing 400+ sq ft of deck/cabintop.

On my Carver 356, I installed plastic 'drip' strips in the rub rail in various locations where the water is channeled off the deck. This keeps the black streaks off the hull.

You should certainly clean the canvas before waterproofing it. Follow the directions on the website I posted above.

I previouly used 303. I switched to StarBrite water proofer, which seems to work as well ... actually a little better. StarBrite is cheaper and available by the gallon. I pour it into a weed sprayer that has a big pump handle. I soak the canvas with the sprayer when it's off the boat. I usually lay the canvas on the driveway. I can still see the outline of the edge of the canvas on the asphalt driveway from last spring's water proofing application. A year's worth of rain, and the overspray on the driveway is still holding up! I guess the StarBrite works a little too well!

I take it to the laundrymat and use dark woolite put in jumbo washer. Let dry then use a garden sprayer using starbrite. The canvas is 12 years old sunbrella and everyone thinks it is new. All together and 75.00 and good to go.
