How Many hours will they run before major repairs or replacment? Providing that the oil is changed every 100 hrs along with the impeller and it gets good fuel.I heard a Westerbeke guy claim that if you got 1000hrs out of a kohler you were doing good. Just wondering how many hours YOU have on yours?

The worst thing you can do to gennie is to NOT use it. Exercise it as much as possible with as much load as possible.

Guess I'm about 300 hours overdue.

First they told them - "you don't need your guns, then they told them, get on the train".

I know a guy who had a houseboat he lived on and used it for charters - his Kohler 5kw had 5000hrs on it with no major repairs.

About what I'd expect a "Westerbeke guy" to say.

I'm wondering what wears out first, the spark plugs on a Kohler 5E or the mouth of a "Westerbeke guy" trashing Kohler.

Almost nothing on a boat wears out due to "hours". Question can't be answered. Wrong question.

What part of GALE WARNING did you not understand?

The guy who owns the storage barn I keep my boat in has this to say -
You can either try to wear them out or you can let them sit up and rust out. He also says the two hardest things on a boat are sunshine and water. I tend to agree.
