Changed the seps in my 454 Merc IBs yesterday. The Starboard sep's feul had a yellowish tint to it. The port side looked normal(to me). I have had both motors running on the hard this year and all was good. Both tanks had startron and stabilizer in the fall. I still need to change the remote feul filters so we will see if I see the same thing. It just looked wierd but maybe I am being paranoid.

The gas is less than a year old. I filled up last August before I hauled the boat prior to Irene. Both tanks were filled at the same time too.

Had the stb'd side of your boat sat facing west or south during the last 12 months?

You could try testing with Kolor-Kut, SarGel or other water-indicating paste. If you have E10 there are pastes supposedly formulated for that.

The Stb'd side faced North since September. But my feul tanks are under the aft-cabin berth not along the sides of the boat. I was talking to my dad about the water-indicating paste. Would a marine supply store have them (not WM)? I am going to Freeport Marine Supply for some things this week. FMS is an outstanding marine sullpy store on Long island that has everything unlike WM. Would extra Startron take care of the phase separation?

Thank you all for your replies...so far.

Most any plumbing supply and a lot of hardware stores have the paste. It's not a primarily a marine type item. But a sniff test for fresh gas might work as well.
