Anybody tried or heard of? The price folks are selling these for is attractive but I have never heard of them before.

I currently use 50' cords at my home dock but 25' would be fine and i probably would get a little better\cleaner power with the shorter cords.

Chinese factory w/ world distribution. What else is new. My biggest concern would be the quality control at the factory and the quality of the wires in the cable. Copper is copper and copper is expensive. You can only sell it so cheap then you are either cutting corners or not selling copper.

The name branded Marinco ones are not even tinned copper with a design that has terrible locking and contact issues. The last thing in the world you want is something cheaper than the design that is already too cheapo and under-designed.

The number one cause of boat fires is the shore power connection.

We started selling Furrion brand cables at work. They are a Chinese made cable, but look of really good quality...much better than Marinco and Hubbel. The have a more positive locking system and don't wobble on the prongs of the inlet.

Just curious.

Have you cut one to do a cross section analysis of the interior wires?

How can it have a more positive locking system. I thought the systems were standard 3 prong.

We haven't cut them yet. The "holes" for the prongs on the boat are reinforced with a hard black plastic instead of just the soft yellow rubber. This is what my "more positive locking" was referring to.

I find this disturbing since I bought a new Marinco cord about a month ago. I also bought a new receptacle for the boat.
My old Marinco cord lasted 12 yrs that I know about.

I saw a new one called smart plug at the boat show that actually looked smart compared to the old twist style. I haven't tried them so I can say how good they are, but they looked like they were worth a look.

The smart plug is a world of an improvement.

I agree the smart plug looks to be much better however they do not seem to be catching on and they have yet to produce a 50 amp version.

The 50 amp was due out in early 2012. God knows what demand is with the industry down as it is. Add to that they will be getting pushback from every traditional configuration manufacturer in the business. Their MSRP is insane. $150 for a single 50 foot cord is a bit steep for my wallet.

Cheaper than continually replacing the guts of the old units and a lot less expensive than a fire.

I have been following the Smartplug system on PANBO. Looks like a really nice system.

I think the flexible material has an advantage if the mating plug is a little out of spec or if the prongs are bent. That hard plastic may crack at some point rather than flexing.
