I lost it. Yes LOST, not stolen, or misplaced, LOST it. (My Magma Grill)
So now I'm looking for an alternative replacement grill. Sad to see the Magma go, but also glad. It was the round model with hinged lid, worked ok, made a friggin grease mess every time I stored it (drip tray was not removable, so greasy burger drippings just sat in a round drip catcher waiting for you to tip the grill to move or store it.) Only way to empty the dripper was to turn the entire grill on it's side. . . .always a mess. ALWAYS.
Been looking for gas replacement, with a removable dripper. A small one. Doesn't even have to be SS. Yet to find one to our liking.

As most people know I like electric. I had a bad experience with those gas canisters and ever since I got a genny I have used electric grills.
Had the George foreman big outdoor one. Works great. I store it in a sealed Rubbermaid container so any grease stays in the container.
Well this year I went to the baby weber q. Not not gas. Electric. Yes they make an electric one.
So I will report back after I use it. Same concept as gas but no open flame.
Plus you can use it behind your boat at the dock.

The Magma Newport grill has a removable grease tray and a bit more grilling area than the round ones.

Has anyone worked out a permanent mounting solution for the baby Q? I need to get a new grill for our 45 and can't see spending $300 for a magma! :)

I use a bait prep board that slides into one of my rod holders.

BabyQ seems to get a lot of kudos from owners. I guess part of my indecision on a replacement is mounting and storage. I hate having anything that inhibits moving around the swim deck, or gets in the way of my transom trunk storage. But everything in boating is a trade off. I guess I want the convenience of a houseboat, but don't want the houseboat. I want to grill out but don't want any mess, want to mount with minimum holes drilled (no fish rod holders on the Bobalong) and easy clean storage. . . .I want I want I want. . . .soon I'll bite the bullit and make a purchase, drill a hole or two and live with it.

I can not take credit for the suggestions below, but I do know many people that have used this method to keep a new grill. This was "borrowed" from the Meridian Yacht Owners site.

This might very well be the best advice on buying a BBQ grill you will ever get! I can't take credit for writing this, because my captain did and I just copied it out of our boat club's forum to past in here.
The nicest bbq grills for boats are Magma stainless steel grills. They have all different sizes so pick out the one that you like best, but before you buy you have to do this...
Go to www.WestMarine.com to buy your Magma grill. Then buy the extended warranty. If your grill costs $250 the extended warranty is $28, for a $329 grill it's $39. The grills work really GREAT and come with a one year warranty but paying for this extended warranty will make it guaranteed for 2 extra years for a total of 3 years.
We all know that stainless steel will eventually rust or get so hot that the stainless stops becoming "stainless" and the entire grill gets brown, even though they name it "stainless". Also the grill's electric igniter will stop working by then too.
So when your grill gets ugly, and the igniter stops working like mine did after 2 years, a few years ago, just put it back in the original box you bought it in, and bring it back to West Marine and they will replace if for you with a brand new one, right there on the spot with no questions asked!!! Now last month that newest grill became too ugly and unable to get cleaned, and the heat was super uneven, and of course the igniter wouldn't... well... ignite! So I took it back to them and upgraded to the new ifra red Newport grill which has more even heat and stays lit in wind, all for $329.
Now the extended warranty you bought for your first grill is good for 3 years but it's only good for one replacement so your new grill will not be able to take advantage of any balance you have on the unused portion of your warranty....
BUT... when you get your new grill for FREE, like I did last weekend, then before you leave the store, don't forget to buy another extended warranty for $28 for your brand new grill that you just got for free.
Now your new grill is guaranteed for another 3 years, which will most likely be rusty before then so you'll exchange it at that time for another new one and buy another extended warranty for that grill.
So now, you're paying $28 - $39 every two years and you're never having to buy another grill for the rest of your life.... or until they stop offering this program...
I told you this was the best advice you'd ever get about buying a grill for your boat!

The extended warranty may work out for some or many people but not for me. I tend to lose the receipt/warranty paper even before I get out of the store. My first magma grill lasted 17 years although I did have to buy some replacement parts for it over the years. When the inner bowl rusted out along with a couple of other items I went ahead and bought a new one. The make different versions of the round grill and I would not recommend the cheap ones because there is no inner bowl.

You dont have to keep the receipt, they track it when you purchase the warranty. Did this with my marine radio and I get a new one every 3 years. I love my magna round grill, perfect size. You wont have greese fires if you buy good meat. The fatty hamburger causes it, buy 93 or even 97 percent lean and you wont have the problem. Thats what we do!

I had a charcoal Magma grill with a stanchion which allowed it to be mounted with a Fish-On bracket. My BF made a vinyl-covered stainless steel cable which he attached to the base of the grill. On the other end was a lock clip so it could be attached to a cleat bolted to the boat. We always attached that cable prior to doing anything with the grill. After the charcoal had become ash, we would lower the grill into the water and let it soak over night [still attached by the cable]. In the morning all the drips and grease and ash had been soaked away. We would let it drip dry on a towel on the swim platform in the morning sun before stowing it in a large pillowcase with a drawstring closure. We kept it down below or in the engine room. This worked really well for us and wasn't much of a hassle at all.
