Just noticed Sears Marine Platinum PM-1 AGMs are now briefly on sale for $210 and the PM-2 is now $165.

I believe that's the lowest I've ever seen them. And there ...may... even be an add'l online discount.
3 yr non-prorated full warranty- tough to beat .

Even though I have Lifeline AGM's if I had it to do over I would chose the Sears AGM's.
At the time I decided to go with AGMs Sears had no AGM batteries.

Near as I can tell, the Sears Platinum Plus AGMs are made by Odyssey. The PM-1s are the same as Odyssey's PC-2150s (Group 31), and Sears' PM-2s are Odyssey PC-1500s (Group 34).

One of our three Odyssey battery banks (3x Group 31 PC-2150s) is into its 7th year now, still holding charge nicely... and it handles the electronics load so it gets a workout.

The Sears prices are excellent.

Do they require a special charger?

If they charge for shipping, that would kill any savings.

I'll check, though.

Ron are you saying you only got 1 year from your Sears AGM or is this a different battery?

No I believethey will charge fine with any good charger(not trickle/maintainer) , but when I bought my 3 PM-2's a few years ago I also purchased (for home use) a portable multistage, multi-rate including Start, Diehard Platinum charger that has a special 40 amp fast charge Platinum setting supposedly just for use with these Platinum AGM's.
The charger is for all 12v vehicle type batteries.
Sears Item# 02871227000 | Model# 71227 , presently $100 but they occasionally go on sale as well.
Very nice charger with digital readout of dynamic voltage . toggleable to % of charge before during or after charging and will display bad battery if that is applicable.

AGM's are very close to standard wet cell battery systems when it comes to charging. However if you want to take full advantage of the AGM battery a 3 stage charger with an AGM position would be a wise investment. One of the many benefits of an AGM battery is that you can charger them with everything the charger will throw at them in the initial charge phase without damaging them.

Our charger manual instructs to charge AGMs at the same setting for lead acid batteries. (The other available setting is for gell cells, NOT suitable for AGMs.) Newer chargers from the same manufacturer have specific settings for AGMs, but the voltages at absorption and float levels seem to mostly be the same anyway.

My four house batteries and the charger failed. The batteries were dry so either I failed to keep them topped off or the charger killed them.

Like a dummy, I replaced them but not the starting battery because it seemed fine. It's at least four years old and an Interstate flooded cell so I figure its time is up. I don't know what I was thinking. It may have been the nearly $1200 I spent on the other four and the $400 for a replacement charger.

So here I am, in the middle of nowhere, down to a three battery house bank and carrying a dead battery with me until I get home in a couple of weeks.

If they have a loaner car in Sanford (FL), I might drive to Sears and buy a replacement. Or take a taxi.

My battery combiner seems to have failed so after I start the engine, I connect a jumper between the two. And disconnect it when I stop for the evening. All I had was some 14 gauge wire so that's a bit of a voltage regulator.

Tonight I'm at the Georgetown Marina on shore power so the're all charging.
