Friend is thinking of putting his 31 footer in at venetian shores. Is there enough room and water? Assuming medium tide... Or is Tanner park better... or should he have it put in by sling elsewhere? LOA is 34... Thanks.

I have seen some big go fasts go in at Venetian.
If I recall ramp is slippery and steep.
There is room, but angle may be too steep and if has inboards, may hit before boat floats!
Burns Park may be best or Hecksher.
I don't know Tanner.

Burns Park is the best. nice and wide, plenty of water too.

Tanner park is an accident waiting to happen, very steep and no real place to walk along the boat while shes being launched.

Tanner isn't great, but my 30 footer has gone in and out at that ramp with no problems. Once you clear the park the bay is wide open and you can get up to cruising speeed.
Burns Park is better, but a lot further and surrounded by 5 mph zones when you get out of the canal. Heading east isn't too bad because it opens up at Amityville, but heading west can be torture until you get to where you make the turn near Seaford.

John, the key to getting through massapequa to get to seaford is running outside the channel. I run about 25 yards off the red marker, and then turn into the cove then shoot southwest to go through the islands.

I've seen lots of guys do that with some fairly large boats and have no problems, but I'm way too cautious for that.
One of these days I'm going to have to follow a big guy through there and save the track for future use.
The only problem is that you never know if the guy in front of you knows where he is going any more than you do.
I was with a friend on his 23 center console one evening when he tried it and we wound up hitting bottom.

He does not have inboards, so that makes it a little easier. However, it is a 34 footer overall. I don't want to give him bad advice on where to put in the boat. I think the hauler wants to dump him in and go. Captain is kind of inexperienced. I was also wondering about manuvering in the tight areas at Venetian, especially if there are other boats right near the loading area. Anyone else with that size boat put it in there? Thanks for all your help fellow captains. You are all the best when it comes to advice. Peace.

It's straight out there. He can just sit and wait for other boats to go away
I am sure it will be fine.

It's been a while since I used to launch my dad's boat at Venetian but I don't remember the water being all that deep. Unless you have a fairly high tide I might be a little nervous with a boat that size. We eventually decided Tanner was better and switched to there. Haven't been to either in 10+ years though.

I wouldn't say Tanner is all that bad, I keep my boat there in the marina and if it sucks so bad how come there are 100 boats a day launched there? Venitian is fine also but the ramp can get over crowded fast. I've never been to Burns so I can't say. When I trailered I used Tanner most of the time and also used Venitian or even Amityville.

Rob.....I agree that Tanner Marina is really nice.....especially since they added the center set of floaters. IMHO the boat launch needs work. It needs a center floating dock system...so you can get in/out without jumping 3' down ( at low tide ) into your boat.... off the pier. I just think they can do better with the launch.

The jump down can be a PIA. I usually pull it around to just in front of the pump out. The dock is a little bit lower over there.
The boat hauler prefers that side of the ramp because he can back in and get a goood view from his driver side mirror. I think the dock extends a little further back on that side (south) too which gives a little more water at low tide.
A center floater would be a home run. Wantagh Park has about the best set up of all, but again, it is a distance away from those of us who dock in and around the Lindenhurst/Copiague area.
