Finally got out on the water last Saturday. I overhauled the boat over the winter, something I do every few years. She ran better than she has in years and the weather was perfect.

Even better, Thunder loved it!

A great day on the water!

A great day on the water!

"Ahh, the wind in my face, my ears laid back in the breeze- ALMOST HEAVEN!"

"Oh, YOU"RE the Captain, Dad? Well, I'll still look like an admiral, OK?"

"I want to make sure that I don't miss a thing..."

"I don't want to go back in!"

Looking forward to OPSAIL 2012. It's going to be AWESOME.

With a Summit racing equipment hat, I want to see the car! The dog's vest likely keeps him safe bouncing off the internal roll bars in the car too.

I'm just a humble civil servant (engineer for Public Works) with a 1987 Bayliner that runs quite well.

It was Thunder's first full cruise. We only made it 1/2 mile last year before the rain and bad fuel kicked in. Fresh fuel and an overhaul did the trick!

We cruised from Great Bridge up to Portsmouth City Park and then on to Middle Ground Light before coming back. I put a lot of water under the keel that day- gotta sea trial before OPSAIL 2012, you see.

He's a feisty little guy at only 14 months and not afraid of standing up near the stern. He kept being told to "sit down"- hence the life jacket for extra measure. Besides, he is our Flotilla Staff Officer for Canine Affairs (i.e. lifejacket model and public relations "hook"). I'm a past Flotilla Commander and current OPS officer in the USCG AUX.

I also do living history at the Military Aviation Museum, transforming into my grandfather earlier in his NAVY career circa 1943-44 flying F6F-3 Hellcats as XO of VF-8.

Don't miss the Warbirds Over the Beach show next weekend! http://www.militaryaviationmuseum.org/airshows/warbirds-over-the-beach-show-may-2012/air-show-schedule
