For various reasons I did not use my boat last year and the person who winterized it may have not done a great job. So I need to do a little extra checkout. I started it the other day and it did start without too much trouble. Did not need to resort to starter fluid. I ran it on muffs for 15-20 minutes and saw water coming out of the outdrive and nothing odd in the engine area. The temp gauge did not move, so I need to check on that. I plan on running it again and this time remembering to check the oil to be milky.
Other ideas besides vacuuming the leaves. Unsure how they get in with the engine hatch on.

First thing you want to try is to tap on the face of the temp gauge after you feel it has been running long enough to show something. They sometimes tend to stick when they sit for a while.

SO you think if I had a crack in the block, head, manifold or riser it would be obvious?

Is the engine running normally? If so, there probably is no water getting in the cylinders. Do the oil check for water. A comp test is always a good thing so you can compare it to others you've done.
We'll wait for more info from you.
