7.3E Kohler gen carbureted in a 2001 31 PC Formula. It ran well last year before winterizing. This year changed the water separater filter before attempting to start it up since the winterizing. It would not start at all. Good spark but when I pull the new filter off it was dry even though it had been crank several times. Filled the filter with gas still no start. Carb replaced with less than 15 hrs on it. Plugs also changed this season. I figure it is either the fuel pimp or a solenoid just before the filter (normal closed till the engine is cranked.) The solenoid is a snap-tite/allied with a P/N 1UBCSV-20397-12 VDC. According to the company that used to manufacture this, it is over 15 yrs old. There I supposed to be a bypass mechanism but the only thing I can find is a he bolt on the bottom. Anyone have any ideas on how to by pass with rerouting the fuel lines and any ideas where I might need to look besides the solenoid and fuel pump.

No expert but I think you have to bleed the air out.
I had a similiar issue and guy said he bled the fuel line.
I think there is a valve that looks like a bycycle air nozzle that lets you bleed air but if you don't have the right tool I think gas will spill. They have a tool that looks like a tube with a pin on the end. Probably could make one.

See if you are getting power to the solenoid and fuel pump. If you are getting power, tap on the solenoid with a screw driver handle. It may just be stuck. If that is the case and you can unstick it, it at least gets you started until you can find a replacement. Ditto the fuel pump. I don't know how Kohler's work, however, on the W'bekes, the solenoid cuts the fuel at every shut down. It's something you do not want to bypass for safety reasons.

I hope you have good luck with the fix. I am very dissapointed in my Kohler 7.3ECD Low CO unit.
Too many quirks and problems after 5 seasons with 250 hours it acts like a finicky 15 year old generator.
With that being said I would never purchase another Kohler again.

Update - It was the fuel pump. TG because the formula replacement solenoid on the newer 31s has a SRP of over $300. Easy fix takes about1/2 hr and cost less than $100 for the pump. BillyIII they eat plugs and already replaced one carb and the replacement went after 1 hr but MTS replaced it for no charge. Thanks again guys for the suggestions.

Mine has been decent on plugs but I use the platinum tipped Kohler plugs. The ECD unit is fuel injected and has far too much computer control.

Well I finally fixed my Kohler 7.3 ECD yesterday. I ended up having to have the heat exchanger cleaned and replaced the O ring on the rawwater pump. The impeller was changed last week and I don't know how or why I missed installing a new O ring. The old one was still in place but with the added back pressure of the restricted heat exchanger it was dripping and not allowing the RW side to fully prime.
