My new to me boat has a 2000 Yamaha 200hp HPDI and I was interested in measuring the fuel burn. Is there a way to measure fuel burn without adding a Floscan fuel meter (I had it on my old boat and it was more of a pain than value)
I believe the motor does not have a NEMA connection to wire it directly with my Garmin 541s.
I appreciate any suggestions.

Average burn is total gallons used from fillup to fillup / total time between. You can do that in less than an hour if you want a general idea of burn at a specific RPM but it's not going to have the accuracy of a properly installed & calibrated flowmeter. I think there is a PC diagnostic software program for that module controlled Yamaha that likely provides temporary dynamic fuel flow data display on a notebook , if you can buy it & the proper interfacecable/adapter. Maybe check with Andy at SIM?
Otherwise , maybe the Navico/Lowrance/Simrad LMF-200 flowmeter gauge and EP-60R sensor with their very basic dedicated NMEA2000 backbone, or the probably somewhat less accurate but helpful Cruzpro FU-60 series might help (it uses conventional tank sender and the gauge has NMEA0183 output is desired. ) http://www.cruzpro.com/fu60.html
Faria also has a non-NMEA Fuel Manager that works with some EFI engine (non-return fuel) : http://faria-instruments.com/site_manuals/IS0324_D_Fuel_Manager.pdf
If you use any of those instruments, let us know your review.

Get a Garmin GFS-10 NMEA2000 gas flow sensor and tank level sensor. I am using one on my Son's 22 MAKO hardtop CC with the same motor, the plotter is Garmin 740s, through hull transducer, Maretron heading sensor, external GPS17X NMEA2000 antenna, NAVONIC's AIS300 Class B tranbsponder NMEA2000, Garmin VHF200 NMEA2000 as well as the GFS-10. Works like a champ. Bill
