Hello all. Didn't want to hijack carvervirgin's thread so I am starting a new one. I just installed a 22" LED tv in my boat with built in DVD player. I have a Shakespeare TV Antenna.... but it came with the boat so that makes it about 14 to 15 years old.
I ran through the channel scan on the TV and it found 3 digital channels (2 of which are the same). So my question is will a newer antenna running on 12v acquire more signals in the same area or are they pretty much the same in the price range of under $200? Will a new $200 and under antenna bring more channels or is it just a waste of money?
Thanks, --Rick

Does your current antenna run on 12v? If not, it's not amplified and a new antenna may help. But if it does run on 12v, you may very well be wasting your money unless your antenna is somehow damaged.
Check with others at your marina and see what and how many channels they get.

A trick that seems to work with my digital TV: Go out in the lake or bay and rerun the channel installation. You will probably be able to pick up many more channels than you could at the dock. Once you come back to the dock you may still be able to receive them as they're now in the set's memory.

Rick, thanks for being considerate. One question, what TV did you go with?

I've heard nothing but poor results with Shakespeare antennas. I installed a Glomex antenna and get over 40 stations in my neck of the woods-I am thrilled since my marina doesn't have cable available. My suggestion is to see who else has an antenna in your marina and ask them how many stations they get.

Hello. I went with a Naxa 22" LED AC/DC w/dvd and comes with both AC and DC cords.
Same one that I bought is found here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/22-LED-TV-TELEVISION-12-VOLT-AC-DC-CORD-CAR-RV-BOAT-DIGITAL-TUNER-DVD-PLAYER-/230786249751?pt=Televisions&hash=item35bbeeb417#ht_2556wt_867
The picture is very nice and I like the fact that they include both the AC and the DC cable... but when I tried it out on a movie, I did so on a movie that had some dark night scenes and some of them were very hard to see at all... like the screen was near black. The TV got some pretty good reviews, so I'm sure somewhere in the setup this is some sort of correction for this.. but haven't played with it yet.
Anyway I found a MoView Flat Screen TV Wall Mount bracket with a locking mechanism that allows it lock in place while underway and articulate out 180+ degrees and then angle up and down... looks great and works great... brand new...$19 of Ebay when they normally sell for a bit over $100.
Keeps the kids happy.

Rick, thanks for that. Does the AC/DC allow you to run the TV off the batteries while not plugged into the dock? John
