Got most of the diesel out but there is still some on surfaces. Is anyone happy with a bilge cleaner for diesel fuel???

I use Simple Green with some Dawn mixed in. I fill a 5 gal bucket with water, add Simple Green and Dawn, pour it in the ER bilge and go to work with a scrub brush to break it all up then I start washing it all down with a hose.

A lot of people pump it all out with the bilge pump but I don't like to do that since it pumps everything, including oil and fuel waste out into the water. I use a shop vac to suck it all out.

A lot of work but it gets everything pretty clean.

Put it in 5 gal buckets and take it to the local recycle center. They pour it into a big tank and give me back my buckets.

Super Clean or Simple Green followed by Dawn. Finish with Oxyclean mixed in a spray bottle. Use a scrub brush on all surfaces you can reach.

I do have trash in my bilge from time to time but oil?

This may seem to be a silly question, but do many owners have oil in the bilge?

My old 454's one with 2600 hours didn't leak oil.

Inquiring minds......

The only time I would have oil in my bilge was when I was paying someone to change my oil!!!! I found the best way to get it out of the bilge, if it hadn't gotten sloshed around much, was to sprinkle enough cheap kitty litter to cover all of the oil. Let it sit for a few days, then vacuum up with a shop vac. Dispose the contents responsibly.

OP said diesel fuel. Could have come from a variety of sources. A blown injector line comes to mind.

Just a failed generator fuel pump. No big deal but some diesel got into the bilge. Diapers took that out but left some residue.

RWS: No lube oil leaks but if you want to see lube oil look at old detroits.

I use Dawn dishwashing detergent. It seems to do the job. Probably most any heavy duty cleaner would also work. Friends rave about "Awesome" cleaner from the dollar store. It seems pretty strong and it's cheap enough.
