Looks like is completely closed down. Only 4 boats left. All the bigger boats are now at Liberty Landing.

Anybody know what happened?

The pier the restaurant is sitting on is sinking about and inch a day from what I was told. Not good. Major failure occurring.

Plus an electric cable going to NYC on the south side to the marina has been breached by a failing wall on the property adjacent to the marina to the south.

Cable is leaking oil that surrounds the inner casing of the cable. That has to be repaired as well. Same company owns both properties, Lefrak.

I guess that explains closing the restaurant on the pier.

The leak in the cable (Mineral Oil) Occurred last year. It's a PSEG issue and not related to the closure.

As Robyns said, the Pier, which is very old and made of wood, has been compromised by marine borers and is no longer stable. They were supposed to finish out the season and then make the repairs. They were monitoring the situation and two weeks ago, the rate of movement increased significantly causing the immediate closure of the pier (and Batello.) We were given very little notice to remove our boats before access to the docks from land was terminated and told that our boats were docked at our own risk.

Out of curiosity did the wave attentuator provide any relief from the rocking? Probably back in 1998 or 99 we were there broadside to the river and everyone had lines between all of the boats to help reduce the affect.

The rocking is bad during the morning and evening rush hours from the ferry traffic. I've been there since 2007 and the attentuator was already there so I can't compare.

Sorry to hear. The marina never seemed to recover from the last hurricane.

When we stayed there it was difficult to walk down the dock during those hours. I'm thinking it helps but that's a tough environment. Lincoln Harbor wasn't much better. The only place we could handle was Liberty Landing.

I don't think the hurricane had anything to do with it. There was very little damage. The office, bathrooms and restaurant were flooded and repaired before the next season. The docks never rose above the pilings. The fingers that were damaged were removed and never replaced.

The "removed and not replaced" seems to include a pretty big section of the marina.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you wind up Michael?

I see at least one of the big yachts moved to Liberty Landing.

They hadn't been anywhere near full for several years. The damage was closer to the river so they basically ended the dock where the damage started.

I got the one remaining slip at Englewood Boat Basin. Some people went to Liberty Harbor, some to Liberty Landing, some to Lincoln Harbor.

Do you know if they are re-opening next year?

They say that they plan to but who knows. There are a lot of variables.I'm afraid that the repair may be cost prohibitive and they may decide not to reopen. My concern is that there may be delays. You need to commit to a slip by like February. They would need to be far along by then to guarantee 5/1 slip availability.

Englewood Boat Basin - I looked it up. Seemed like a great location and nice dockage. I hope you enjoy it, Michael!

We almost moved to Englewood Boat Basin but the low water caused us to look elsewhere.

It's not as bad as Alpine which can be 3 1/2' or less at low tide.

Thank You JD. It's a very nice marina set in a beautiful park. The problem for me is that I work in the city, which is the only reason I was at Newport. The Marina is not accessible from the city. It's an hour and 45 min by bus. The bus stop is 1.3 miles away. It's also 20 min further than Newport from my home which I can live with for now. I used to park at Newport a few days a week and take the PATH to work which was 15 min. That would enable me to come back to the boat after work and get my work done or just hang out. There really is no way to do that now. I guess I could drive to Secaucus in the morning or maybe there is park and ride somewhere around there but to drive all the way up to Englewood in the morning with all the GWB traffic and then head back down to the city makes no sense.

Tarrytown Marina seems to have plenty of empty slips and a metro north station stop. Less than 40 minutes to GCT

I know but I live in NJ. Being on the Westchester side does me absolutely no good. It's 60 miles from my house plus multiple tolls on the Garden State, Turnpike, Thruway and Bridge. Would take at least two hours to get there in the morning.

The ferry doesn't go to Edgewater anymore? It used to run on weekdays only to the city.

Yes to Edgewater. Still a pain to drive there in the morning, park and then take ferry. Guess I was spoiled by jersey city I have parking and a 15 minute path ride to midtown,
