Revised the " subject line" from Boat rides to a more accurate description of the thread content.

I have really learned a lot about the Cape Coral area and hopefully will be returning next year

Rich and Carm

We recently bought a house in Cape Coral, but have not fully moved into it yet. (We're still up in VA finishing up work stuff and house projects before we sell in VA.). Though we enjoy taking people out for rides, I don't want to promise anything at this time for two reasons: 1.) I'm not sure when we'll be down there next, and 2.) Our boat currently has an oil pan leak, and I need to get it fixed from one of the mobile marine mechanics when we finally get back down there. The engine will need to be pulled for that job. So, I'm not sure when the boat will be back in functioning form, and don't want to promise something that I can't deliver on. An another alternative you might consider is that there are a couple boat rental companies down there. One is out of the Cape Harbour part of cape Coral.

Best luck

Rich/Carm, we have plenty of room on our 36' sedan/flybridge, let me know when and we'll set it up.

Good morning Bruce Thank you for your offer. We will definitely get in touch once our travel plans are solidified. I know that we have company coming in the first week of March.
After that whatever works for you will be ok with us.

Our boat also is a flybridge, 350 Carver Mariner

My wife was not really in favor of me posting this request but I thought that all boaters share a common bond and are willing to help other boaters no matter what the request may be.

This offer from you proves that . Thank you

Glen I also want to thank you for your reply.
Congradulations on the move to Cape Coral.

Hope your boat repair goes smoothly and you get out on the water very soon. Did you purchase a canal home ? The house we are renting is on a canal and has the typical dock and boat lift. The owner also has a 22 foot boat in the sling but it is out of commission.
Hence the requested posting for a ride.

Rich and Carm - Yes, we purchased a canal home with dock and lift. What part of Cape Coral will you be in? It's possible that you'll be boating past our house. We're on one of the more major canals.

We will be in the south part of Cape Coral , SW 8th Court, A little north of the Tarpon Point Marina.
It would probably be a 2 mile canal ride to get to open water.
this will be our second year in this house and we find the location to be very convient.

Rich and Carm - Depending on which part of SW 8th Ct. you are at ... the northern "fingers" or the southern "fingers", .... you'll boat right past my house. The southern fingers come out below my house, but all boats from the northern fingers go by my house on the way to open water.

The northern fingers 8th Ct and the southern fingers 8th Ct are circled. My house is at the "x".

Hi Glen We will be at the southern fingers, 5308 so we would not pass your new house. We will be very close and if you come down in March look us up. I will PM our contact info.

We do have a canoe at our disposal and in my younger days your house would be an easy destination. Next year the owner of the house will have his power boat for our use but not this season. He just bought it and it needs repair , we will only get to look at it hanging
in the sling

regards
Rich and Carm

Rich and Carm - If we get there in March, we'll look you up. I have not received PM on your contact info yet, so am not sure if you sent it yet. I'll try sending you my info now.

Good afternnon Bruce I sent you a PM

Regards
Rich

Bruce. Just wanted to let you know that I will have access to a boat while we are in CC
THE home owner is fixing the steering problem and all should be good to go by the time we arrive
Thank you very much for offering to take us out. It was a very generous offer to reach out to strangers like you did.
Thanks again
Carm &, Rich

That and/or to create some water frontage with a longer view than just looking across a 150' wide canal. If you have a house on one of those square "lakes", beware that you need a low profile boat, as you need to go under a bridge or two to get out. From the upper 4 lakes, you need to fit under a 9' bridge. From the lower 4 lakes, you need to fit under both a 9'3" bridge and a 8'9" bridge to get out to the Gulf. There are several locations throughout the Cape that you need to fit under a bridge. ... Something to be aware of when house hunting, and it can significantly affect price.

On the map below, the dark blue canals are land-locked "fresh water" canals, and do not have access to saltwater/Gulf of Mexico. The light blue canals can get out to the Gulf, but still can have low bridge clearances in certain areas. There are supposedly 400 miles of canals, with 225 of the 400 having Gulf/saltwater access. The ones without bridges are referred to as "Sailboat" access because of no overhead clearance issues (except a 55' high power line across one of the canals). You can see the bridges with their respective clearances on the map, as well. Boats coming down the west side canal, called the "Spreader canal", have to go through a lock in the southwestern corner. That lock is supposed to be removed in the near future. The lock does not control water elevation. It is there to supposedly control fertilizer runoff.
