Anyone have any special secrets or tips for removing dock rash?

Is it just paint or scraches? If it's paint I've had luck with those rubber graphics erasers. Sometimes if it's not too bad a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser will work but be careful they're abrasive.

It's scuffs from the black rub rail on our gas dock. I plan on polishing with 3M and my Porter Cable this weekend. I don't know if the Finesse It 2 product has enough cut to remove the marks or if I needed to try something before I started.

Acetone. Can strength, not stepped on or diluted. It's going to strip the wax, too, but it will get ANYTHING off gelcoat without hurting it. Whatever you do, DON'T wheel over it with Finesse-It II !!!!

Mike why do you say the above? Dose it hurt the gel-coat? I wheeled over mine with Finesse-it II and it turned out great.

Rubber streaks, creosote, soft paints, et cetera, will smear all over the place - and ruin a perfectly good, well broken in buffing pad.

Acetone and Flitz, Simple Green and Zaino are your best friends in making boats look niiiice.

My solvent of last resort after compound, cleaner wax, and acetone is hydrochloric acid (zing). One of these 4 will get anything off a hull or rub rail.

Black streak remover works okay sometimes, too.

3M Light rubbing compound applied by hand. Just follow the directions on the bottle. Sometimes it takes 2 times and some elbow grease for tough spots. I just removed a whole bunch of dock rash with this. Follow it up with a good wax or 3M cleaner and wax and it will look like new. Gets everything out, even swirl marks from the electric buffer. Use it by hand...follow the directions...you'll be dock rash free in 5 minutes.
