Gray Water tank

bought a 44 1989 Aft Cabin and found out it has what appears to be a gray water tank integral with the water tank under the master cabin bunk.
In talking with SR Tech Support (the best) they said "impossible", yet there are two (2) hoses coming from the bottom of the tank. One hose is connected to the pump out fitting on the rear quarterdeck and the other is connected to the "water Fill" .

Anyone have any duplication of this unusual, albeit illegal arrangement?
 
So when you pump and fill you never finish? Man, what genius did that? Sounds like a candidate for the Darwin awards as he attempted to recycle the water! I guess he never met Peggy or Vic?
