This winter we went from getting a boat for sure, to deciding a boat may not be a good idea right now. It took 2 warm(ish) days in a row here in WI and our boat search was back in full swing. After a bit of negotiating, a survey and a sea trial over the last couple of weeks, on Friday I hired a captain and he and I brought our new (to us) Carver Mariner across Lake Michigan and to her new home here in Milwaukee. I was a bit nervous about going from a 20' single engine boat to a larger "adult" boat but learned that my fears were unfounded. As I brought her into the harbor headed to the slip Captain Bob asked if I wanted him on the lines or the helm. Due to the slight wind I said he should probably grab the helm. He smiled at me and immediately headed for the lines. I was able to work the engines and play the wind and gently bring the boat into the slip where the lines could be passed to the dock hand. I don't know how I ever lived without 2 engines.

Thank you all for your input and suggestions over the winter. Boatered is truly the best $20 I have ever spent.

We are slipped at NSM.

I know that they had one called "Cop-Out", which is a 2000 model Mariner, and I think they had an older one that might have been brokered. At any rate, we have only seen "Cop-Out".

The boat "Cop-Out" has been slipped a couple of slips down from our boat, and the admiral had been eyeing it. But looks like the marina staff has been working on it a bit, like they were getting it detailed for delivery.

By the way, windy days still scare the crap out of me...
 
That is the boat we purchased. As you'd expect in this market we got excellent value. It surveyed well, had just 300 hours and only needed a few minor things. Mostly just needed to be loved. We got everything cleaned up and the old name off over the weekend now I just need to order some polish etc. from boatfix and we'll be good to go.
 
Totally... I likely walked right past you...

Let me know if you make it over to Milwaukee at all. The yacht club can be rather fun and I know we have some transient slips.
 
Congratulations!! We went to twin engines a year ago and I'm with you - I don't know how I got along with a single!

If you did, my boat was the Carver at the corner of the floating dock.

NSM is planning a cruise to Milwaukee, but we're not sure we will be making it or not. Timing might not be right.

We moved up to a Carver 350 Mariner last year. We still feel challenged when the breeze blows, but love the room it provides. It's our condo on the water Enjoy!
 
Thanks Gratcho. I agree with the wind... Last night I bribed (beer) one of the local "experts" from the club and spent a couple of hours pulling in and out of different slips around the harbor. It was challenging last night when the wind picked up a bit but good practice...

What harbor in Chicago are you in?
