The mess is Mayberry Slough has gone from bad to worse. A year after the majority of the lash barges were burned, to owner (?) has returned with a vengeance. Now there are two trailers parked on top of the remaining barges, bith of them hanging out into the slough. Plus, there are a couple of wrecked boats and a derelict crane. How can this be legal? I pay for a slip in Contra Costa county, including property taxes. What can be done to remove this eyesore before the slough turns into another Fisherman's Cut.

Plus, on the other end of the slough bypass, someone has moved in a small houseboat. I saw it get towed in by a runabout a few weeks ago, and now someone is sporadically living on it. At the least, neither of these derelicts have legal MSD's. Any idea on options here?

A few years back I remember seeing a vary large wooden boat or maybe I should say ship all the way up Miner Slough where it takes a sharp bend to the East. I always wondered what the story was on it since it seemed to be way out of place.

In it's day, it looked like it was a very nice vessel, but it's days were long gone when I saw it. It looked like your typical squatter boat only huge. Then a couple years later I went past and noticed it was gone. I wonder what happened to it?

I think you are referring to The Golden Gate, it was a very old dredge made of redwood, there was a real delta character trying to refurbish it to open it up. He had a rail made of 100 year old tools welded together, he had a giant fish tank with a shipwreck in it with gold deblooms? (big gold coins) and he said if you gazed into it it would tell you tales of the seven seas!!!! He had a giant carved devil face/fead that he was going to run the beer tap out of his mouth, I was 20 yrs old and mesmerized by this dredge and its captain. That dredge has been gone for years and years, I think was was at what is now Halls Island on Miner Slough. The Western levee of Prospeect Slough is now eroded almost completely away, you better know where you are if you go up there. You might end up on flooded Liberty island.

The Golden Gate Island Resort belonged to my family .My dad bought and refurbished a dredge that had been used to dig the pileings for the Golden Gate Bridge hence the name Golden Gate Island Resort.
It was a family oriented restraunt and campground with a dock that was accessable by boat only .
The dredge was sold many years ago and then burned down .People came from all over to see it,television personalities etc and yes there were a lot of unusually creative features to see .The island is still there and is still owned by my family .
I am glad that it is remembered by some .

DeltaDave, thanks so much for adding some facts to this. It is very interesting! Do you still hang out in the delta or have you found other things to keep you busy?
