In another thread I had inquired about an older 1979 Pilothouse and the issues associated with them.
I just received the owners log during his "Great Loop" and it states that he used 200 Hrs as the interval for oil changes. These FL 120's have 7500 Hrs on them.

I was told on these exact Diesel engines of a similar vintage that my interval should be around 50 Hrs.

Opinions ??
I still have not walked away completely.

Looking at the Lehman 120 Owner's Manual online , the maintenance schedule on p.26 says change crankcase oil & filters & transmission oil every 200 hrs. , ....but change injector pump oil every 50 hrs ..

It certainly can't hurt to change crank oil & filter on an old engine at lesser intervals (though the opposite tends to be the case by neglectful owners) , and I believe many other diesels call for 50-100 hrs.

The seller should have a hardcopy of the manual to include with the boat, no?

I had a new 1979 Marine trader with the 120 HP engine. We loved the boat, except it is slooow.

I changed the engine oil every year before layup and normally put 100 hours on the engine. I took the engine course in Linden NJ where they serviced the engines and doubt the oil change interval was less than 100 hrs.
I don't remember anything about changing the oil in the injector pump, some how I thought it was lubricated by the fuel and don't remember anything from the course.
