I had my props done by a Prop Scan shop in Southfied Mi. last season. Wow what a difference! I gained 10 to 15% through my RPM range in increased speed and MPG. Great technology as we have heard here before.(Boat is 45,000 lb.) I did three RPM charts to prove the results.Full load light load and dirty bottom end of season medium load. The best part is the owner of that shop is on this Forum, and I am betting he has the correct answer for your Prop question. His name is Ron and his handle is Prop Guy. He has a super strong resume in machining and is a pleasure to talk to.

I get my I/B props PropScan 'd for free, including printouts of the results , every winter in Middletown , RI.
They usually do not require service but at least I know for sure & have the reports for my records.

Would enjoy hearing some technical prop stuff from Prop Guy

I had similar results from my local shop after they had been repitched by a non scan shop. Would never use anything but a scan shop.

The secret is not only in knowing the software, but in knowing the prop world in general. The key from my guyrb2@gr5t Wildcat is the shop knowing or rather getting to know your boat and what you have from it and what you want out of it..... Then telling the truth to you about the difference between your expectations and that nasty thing called reality.

I talked to Ron (Prop Guy) yesterday and was told by him that Les said he would set him up as a Moderator for prop issues. That did not happen and that was last year. Les never got back to him to this date. I think Ron would be a great asset to the Forum and would like Les to move forward with his promise.

Thank You for the kind words and accolades. The truth of the matter is the technology and application with the Captains input results in gains never achievable before PropScan. We are the "Tool and Die Shop" of the propeller world. With so many changes especially in the past 15 years in propeller design and size of blades along with material make up and CNC machining, tight tolerances DO make a HUGE difference. To get all this and the security that the propeller(s) won't go out of tune is the reason I became involved in this process.

If anyone has any questions feel free to direct them to me and I'll do my best to help.
Thanks again
Ron

Is there anything in the world of composites for inboards on the horizon for us mere mortals. I recall reading "something, somewhere" but it was for megayachts and the cost was staggering for the smallest prop.

TIA.

Okay I'll bite PropGuy and thanks for any light you can shed on something I consider a dark science and voodoo and art. ;-) at $10k a set it is hard to do trial and error with these things.....and when you add in the fact that have to behave differently under water than they do when in surface piercing mode it is very confusing.

40 foot deep Vee like an oversized Cigarette or Cary non-stepped hull. Add dual big block chevy engines and arneson surface drives (ASD8s) and consider full o fuel and water a vessel weighing 16,000 lbs. Gears are 1.5:1 reductions.

props are currently round eared three blade bronze surface "chopper" units that have rolla scribed into them and 19x19.

Should these work?

Thanks Foot
