A few things to be aware of as we prepare for the imminent rehosting of boatered.com.

The URL will redirect once complete, http://boatered.com will take you to the new home.

We are migrating all of the active ( non archived) posts which you see on the forum today - classifieds from last two years, NBR from last two weeks, and all existing posts from the remaining categories. All of the existing members will be migrated, with status to correspond to what they have today ( Member, Ex Member, Welcome RO). The count of posts for each member should be preserved, but will be much lower due to the nbr and archive delete.

There are a few things that won't migrate, or won't work once migrated,

1. Passwords - on initial login you will have to create a new password. More instructions on this will be coming soon.

2. Polls - The threads which contained polls will not display after migration.

3. Default Avatars - there are a couple dozen avatars in the current platform that you can choose from. These will not migrate.

4. Links - there are a lot of posts that have links referring to other posts on boatered, for example http://www.boatered.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=209845 - These links won't work anymore, at least not initially, as the url beyond boatered.com will not be the same. There may be a remediation for this at a later date.

5. Private Messages ( PM's) - many of these have been read, and not deleted, many have not been read. None of the PM"s will be migrated to the new site.

Down time - there will be a 5-7 day period between the time the last backup is made from this site, and the time we are live on the new site. There were various options we considered to deal with this. We could shut this site down before the new one is live, leave it up with all forums locked so no one makes any posts, perform a second migration, or allow users to make posts that we won't copy over.

We have decided to go with the last option, to leave the forum open, but lose some posts, An announcement will be made when we enter this window, likely between 2/6 and 2/10.

See you all at our new home (:

Alk, thanks for all your work on this. Will the new host allow direct picture posting? I.e., without photobucket or similar.

There is an expectation that photo and video hosting will be available, but don’t want to make any promises as to what will and will not be there , until it’s all up running.

One thing at a time. So far so good!

Andy, I can tell this isn't your first data migration! :) Good work and good communication!

Awesome! BoaterEd will live on. Les would be proud.

Honestly guys, Andy deserves the lion's share of the credit here...I was tearing my hair out before he stepped out with his ninja skills...

Beam us over Scotty....

Honestly, GREAT STUFF GENTLEMEN !

Big Thanks to Brian and Andy. I, for one, appreciate all the work involved with this.

Please don’t thank me yet, until it’s actually done! Also don’t be too alarmed if the site goes down for a few days. Having some problems creating the new site, with this site still active - for reasons that aren’t clear to me but apparently make sense to everyone I ask for help. If we go dark, please check back daily until we return.

I'm getting the shakes already.

Seriously Andy. I know this is complicated but if shutting down for a while is the best way just do what you need to do.

the new site will have an ssl certificate, reachable at https. The forum software requires it, even to install. That's sort of where we are stuck right now, as I can't get the ssl certificate for boatered, since boatered is still live at this current location. Hence the possible shut down while we redirect boatered to the new server, even though nothing is there. There are some workarounds I will look into this evening.

Awesome work, Brian and Andy. An excellent and fitting legacy for the GTBC in the sky.

Taking the backup at 9:00 pm est today ( 2/4). Anything posted after that time will NOT be migrated to the new site.

Boatered reborn, thanks in advance, Andy. Les is smiling today.
