This is a class act Derby - ran by a class Captainn, Steve Talmage of "Flash Sport Fishing".
It has really caught on going on year 3 now, and is kinda purposely intended to compete with the famous "Sturgeon Super Bowl Derby", which has always had a *scratchy* past, with some questionable accusations...not a well "respected" Derby?

Register at Martinez Bait & Tackle by 6:00 p.m 1/23/09 or at Castro Valley Sports by 1/20/09 5:00 pm. Late entries at the seminar held at Martinez Rod and Gun Club 900 Waterbird Way between 7:00 pm & 9:00 pm. Friday, January 23, 2009.
Derby will begin at 6:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 pm.
Weigh in at Martinez Bait & Tackle outside.
Boaters Only – Rain or Shine
Boundaries: Carquinez Bridge, east end of Little Cut to Port Chicago cranes, the Montezuma bridge, and Suisun City Ramp.
Bait will be sold on first come, first served basis – NO RESERVATIONS!
Entrants must have their ticket stub , valid fishing license and Sturgeon report card at weigh-in to be eligible for prizes.
We will have a water weigh master. You must call him on channel 68. At the time you hook a fish, he will come to your location, measure, photo and observe the release of the fish. You may continue to fish and may have multiple entries. The fish must be between 46" and 66 " to be entered In derby.
Names will be drawn at 5:00 p.m.
Prizes will be drawn after names..
WEIGHMASTERS DECISION IS FINAL
Violation of CA Fish & Game or Derby Rules/Regs will disqualify entire boat. Individuals participating in derby do so at their own risk. Martinez Bait & Tackle, Flash Sport Fishing and their sponsors assume no responsibility for personal injury, loss or damage to personal or other property and equipment deemed lost or damaged by contestant and their guests.
Prizes will be determined as follows:
1) One name will be drawn for each place.
2) In the event that there are not enough fish caught to award all prizes, ticket stubs will be drawn at random to award all remaining prizes in order.
3) YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN
1st Place = 35% of all entry fees
2nd Place = 25% of all entry fees
3rd Place = 20% of all entry fees
4th Place = 5% of all entry fees
5th Place = 5% of all entry fees
6th Place = 5% of all entry fees
7th Place = 5% of all entry Fees
- Procedure to Follow to Enter a Fish for the Derby Drawing- IMMEDIATELY upon hooking a sturgeon call a weighmaster on VHF Channel 68 to have a weigh-in vessel dispatched to your location to witness landing and measurement of fish. Only legal slot fish that have been released can be entered in the Derby drawing.

It's better to call for a weigh-in vessel even if you're not sure of the fish's size. Our goal is to measure the fish in the water and to do an “in-the-water" release.
If the sturgeon is outside of the legal slot size of 46–66", the fish must be released and it will not be entered in to Derby drawing. Only legal slot sized sturgeon that have been released can be entered in the Derby prize drawing.
We are trying to prevent any damage to any Sturgeon that is going
to be released. Please be careful!
KIDS DERBY RULES
1) Any child 15 and under can enter free.
2) Any child entering must check in at Martinez bait shop or at the seminar to receive the entry ticket.
3) All kids must check in with their fishing rod so it may be tagged.
4) Any fish may be checked in for an entry.
5) As soon as a fish is hooked up call for a weigh master to verify the child catching his or hers fish. If you have trouble hailing a weigh master on channel 68 call
