VACATION!!

I agree with your point about Star but MYC has stepped up their game since the takeover.

Dock help is much better and I recall when I was docking, the directions to the slip included "it's two slips further down from where you were last year".

IMO, I agree Star is a "friendlier" place.

I have not been to Star but I'm sure it's nice I have heard so by several people who go there regularly. Bottom line I don't get why anyone would question why I would go to MYC we all have our favorite stops for what ever reasons. I get that it's pricey but Block is only a little less and I'm going there also anyway. I like to make several stops during a week trip just to change things up a bit. I started going to MYC in the early 80s I don't recall ever being disappointed. I'm going with a least one other boat and they have never been past Northport I'm sure they will have a great time on this trip if not, I will feel bad because I picked the stops.
I'm sure there are much cheaper places in the Chesapeake but how much fuel did it take to get there?

More importantly how are the current vacationers doing? Hogan are you back in town or did you continue on for another week of fun in the sun?

Dave, IMO it's all about how the marina takes care of you and they both do so you can't go wrong either way. Also, unless things have changed, they used to charge the same rate so it's not a matter of price. Besides, after you spent the money fo rthe fuel, a few dollars either way shouldn't matter. A great trip does.

Have a great time. We love Montauk and Block.

Got back to PBM at 2:30 today, had a good ride, got photographed again by Boatpix, I'll have to check out their site.

We had a fantastic time, but spent too much time behind the wheel - put 36 hours on the boat for just this one trip!

If you notice the Hudson suddenly saltier, it's from our boats.

Welcome home you missed another great weekend here. Saturday at Croton and Sunday at Bowline two great days back to back. Good company and good friends can make even the worst on weekends nice.
See you on the water next week. I saw Starry Night coming home today as I was heading out, we greeted each other with our wakes it's good to know that the boats can take even it's own wake with barely a bump.

Dave, I heard you were looking for me the other day. We were in Bermuda. A buddy mentioned you guys will be in Montauk the same week as us. I decided on a different marina than last time. "Due to the economic downturn" lets discuss. email me. blackdawgatoptonline.net

Sounds like MYC has seen the light, and is trying to woo it's old (and new) customers back! It truly is a "resort" and, IMHO, the only place to stay while in Montauk.

I love MYC, however you better re-read the offer, It states August 1 - Sept 15th 2008. We are in 2010.

Risingson / Mike thanks for posting that I will call tomorrow and see if I can get that price at least for the second day or maybe push back our stay for both nights.
BTW are you going to Block this year will we see you there? Hope all is well.

I'm not sure they still sell fuel. I could be wrong but I think I left the marina to fill up last year.

Good pick up Bob I didn't notice that I guess it is back to original plans. I was starting to feel like I was getting ripped off by them not mentioning the special.

Mike I'll call you later to go over me plans it would be nice to meet up again.

I called MYC just now. That rate DOES NOT EXIST! 2008 SPECIALS ONLY. Ryan the CSR laughed at me..
Dave lets discuss

6 hours from Block Island to Stony Point. First 2 hours in VERY thick fog. Running Plum Gut without being able to physically see the buoys is always interesting but the sound was like glass the entire way. Hated leaving but it does feel good to have the boat back in her own slip.

Rommer,

Did you stay at your favorite marina? How was it?

Agree a bit unnerving. Especially to watch the ferry on radar.

Yup, 5 nights at Champlins and it was a great time. Squidding was great, clamming was great, mudslides were great, company was great, non-existent crowds was great, little yapping dog a few boats away barking for an hour or so at a time was not so great! :)

FWIW, last years dockmaster is no longer there. The new guy seems to be more laid back but still getting the hang of things. We went without reservations this year as it was a last minute trip and had no problem getting space on a Friday afternoon on a floater no less. The weekend was pretty full but the weekdays had lots of space. There were even many moorings open during the week as well.

One side note about the fog, don't forget to monitor channel 13 as well as 16. You'll be amazed at how well things get laid out as to who is where and doing what over the radio. Every little bit of information helps during periods of no/low visibility.
