VC 17 re-coating Required this year?

I have been coating my boat (fresh water) with VC 17 for the last 6 years. I do a complete paint job every other year and do a “smile" paint on the off year. This past year I stored indoors. This year it is going to be difficult (not impossible) to do the all over re-coat. How risky is it to launch without re-coating at all this year? The last 2 years the boat was used for probably 30 hours total otherwise it sat in the marina for 4 months each of the last 2 years.

In southern Lake Michigan it is no problem. I am sure that doing the water line down about 18 inches will do just fine. I've done it that way every other year for a long time.
