Somehow the stupid survive

Red flag number …

1: the operator wearing a wifebeater
2: fender flapping in the spray
3: no anchor on the roller

Looks like he could have saved it if he kept his cool.

Also, who wants to bet he was frantically looking for the brake pedal?

One question comes to mind...the notes on the video say the tow boat company was going to charge them $6k to salvage, but they declined and instead abandoned the boat. So who gets to pick up the tab to clean up the mess?

local authorities will probably have to pick up the tab… in other words the taxpayers. As usual.

So you can just abandon a boat and it's not your problem any more?

I'm thinking the boat would have made it if he pressed on or actually turned all the way around. It's sad. A stout application of throttle here and there probably would have made all the difference. The poor shnook got himself into it before he had enough experience with any sort of wave action.

It appears to me that not a single person on the boat had any clue how much danger they were in. I have not gone back to watch it but I don't remember seeing anyone wearing a floatation device. I did not notice any concern about getting away from a boat being pounded on the rocks. I even wonder if any of them could swim a stroke or two...

Flotation device? The one guy didn't even put down his friggin' beer!

Ignorance is bliss, they are lucky it wasn't also deadly here...

Watching this was one of those times I just wanted to take the wheel - no reason this should have happened other than just completely clueless on how to operate a boat. The guy with the beer was almost funny - I mean the world is coming un glued and he is casually sipping that beer! It sure did not take the surf long to make short order of that old (but looked nice enough) boat.

I watch these videos some, most of these people should not be going through this inlet, I am suprise how people will take a nice boat and just beat the **** out of it going through here. I saw a Cobalt go through not long ago - that is a nice boat, but not made to take gallons of salt water over the bow! I have also seen a SeaRay Sedan Bridge get the whole transom locker ripped off it when the dingy got loose. On the other hand, you see people in little boats - two girls with a 17ft Whaler they call the blue top legend for example - they cruise there in all kinds of bad stuff with no problems - but 10min later you see a dumbass in a 50ft boat just get it handed to him because he has no clue. Just unbelievable what some people will do -- out of just plain ignorance.

I always thought I would want to retire in FL and enjoy year around boating, but know these are the people that I would be around makes me re-think that one.

Don't give up on FL completely. These types of antics are much less prevalent in areas outside of the Miami - Ft Lauderdale - SE FL area.

In theory… In the real world there are dozens of derelict abandoned boats that are barely afloat and eventually end up in the bottom right here outside my marina.

This one will probably get a little more scrutiny though.

Problem with these videos is that it encourages idiots to seek their 6 and half seconds of internet fame and do stupid stunts
