Even though I have the seat extended forward to the limit, I need to fully stretch my arms to just reach the wheel. It's even less comfortable for my wife. I'm 5'10" with commensurate arm length. So I'm a little perplexed with how big the human animal must grow in Florida given you'd have to be about seven feet tall to reach the wheel if the seat is adjusted to the centre of the gliding mechanism and somewhere north of ten feet tall if the seat is fully adjusted as far back rearward as possible.

Can the seat mount be moved forward in the floor without much difficulty? I gather there's a backing plate under the floor and I wouldn't know how to access it. And I realize there'd be some cosmetic issues with the carpeting around the old mount site, but I'm married and chubby and have long abandoned the idea of needing to impress anyone anymore.

Does Regal really build 'em like this (the boat was bought second-hand) or was it a custom job from the original owner (whom I'm told goes by the name of 'Shaq' or something like that).

I'm a first-time boat owner. Is this a legitimate problem or should I just stop whigning and buy Paul Popeil's sensational Ronco Telescopic Steering-Wheel Extender for Regals? Please reply asap cause if I act now on this deal, I get a Ginsu knife while supplies last!
 
Before moving the base, is there any mods that could be done to the seat rail to move the seat further ahead. I never really thought about this issue before, because I am 6' and my wife doesn't drive the boat, and I too have the seat as far forward as it goes. For me, it's just right. As silly as it may sound, what about putting some sort of pad on the seat back?
 
6' tall with seat as far forward and just right eh? So it sounds like the base is positioned deliberately too far astern. What up with that? I would imagine someone of your size should have the seat somewhere in the middle setting or even further back than that.

While I'm not at the cottage at the moment, I doubt the answer to your question about modifying the seat rail is doable. But many thanks for the reply.
