The old " just needs a little TLC".

which engine(s) does it have also..that'll make somewhat of a difference. On Yachtworld, I've seen them for as much as $39,000 and as little as $9,000. Last year, we sold one n questionable shape on e-bay for $6,000 with bad Merc 3.7's

John,
Here is what my 1988 534 Carver montego looked like when I just sold it in Oct 2007. Alot of swet an love in this boat. We owned her for 9 years. She looks 10x beeter now, than when I bought her.

Carver made large boats back then. A lot of space for a 27 footer.

Here, are a few more items to look at.
Check the vinyl.
Check for any water damage
Check if the bildge is dry
Check the bottom for blisters
Check the electric system.
Does it have single or twin engines
305, 350 or 454

Bob, your 3257 was beautiful! We seriously considered one two years ago before settling on another 28. Our budget was tight and there was one nearby that was very cheap but needed a lot of work. Since I had just had my heart attack (at 39 - lucky me!) we thought better of it and picked a 28 that needed work but was no where near that rough...

I'm sure whoever bought your boat is going to have a gem on their hands - are they a BoaterEd RO???

Pete,
Thanks
It worked out well for us. The new owner of our Carver 3257 was the owner/broker of the Trojan 440 Express. I purchased his boat and he took by boat in on the trade. He wanted a smaller boat up on the 1000 islands. The Trojan 440 was to big for it up there. Plus he was having a custom 65' Outer Reef being built for him down in FL. The Montego brought much fun for our family. My daughter was 4 months old when we purchased her. My son was born on the boat. My daughter is 9, my son 7 now. Time flies.

Wow, Bob. So many memories, it had to hurt saying goodbye to the boat! I felt that way when
I watched them cart away my old 2895, especially since I was raised on that boat myself and
my parents are both gone now. It felt like a big piece of me was leaving with it...

ok the Manifolds/Risers are in really good shape
the Canvas/Upolstery is in 80% good shape. the outside canvas is new and the interoir has a little sun fade on it, but needs a good cleaning
the outdrive is alpha ones and look good no water in the lowers,...No a/c..:(
it has twin 4.3L mercs. with 345 hourws on them and it needs two new batteries cause the ones in it don't come with it, they are borrowed for a friend of the owners.
The trailer is a 2005 model and it retails for $6500. I called the number on the side of the trailer and gave him the number on the trailer and they said that was the purchase price then but more now.

John,

It sounds like the boat can range from 10,50 to 25,000. What is it selling for. At least you know the trailer is worth 6500.00.

The Gel coat looks faded. That is going to be an issue year after year. It will not get better. You will need to spend time on it.

Look at Yachtworld and review similar boats. That will be your guide line.

he is letting it go for 10,000, he originally wanted 12,500 but we talked him down to 10,000

For the boat and trailer????

Go for it. You cannot beat that price.
