1992 Ebbtide

We need a plate for and engine interrupting switch for a 1992 Ebbtide with a yamaha I/O 5.7l Engine. Part #6TO-44104-01-00. We have tried two different places and both siad part was unavailable. What can we use as a replacement part, or where can we find this part.

MerCruiser Alphas use a Shift Interrupt Switch. The company that made them went out of business. MerC found another supplier but the form factor of the switch was different, so... Had to buy a whole new shift plate to be able to use the new switch. The older carbureted MerC arrangement used a switch that CLOSED when it needed to interrupt, grounding the ignition coil. The ones with Fuel Injection have an Engine Control Module (ECM) and the interrupt for those OPENS a circuit. You need to know what you've got.
