I am looking for a 1998-310 Santego because of the moulded steps.
I have found one with 5.7's inboards.
A couple of questions and any general information would be appreciated.
Should I be looking for inboards or IO's?
Anything special I should be looking for or particular problems with that model.

I am an experienced boater and have a 2005 Regal 2665 I bought new.

Thanks

Inboards, inboards, inboards...did I mention inboards? I don't recall any particular problems with that model, but have it surveyed for structural and deck integrity (as on any used boat)

RamSport47, are you having problems with those Alpha's?

If you are in salt water, inboards would probably be the better way to go. If you are in fresh water and you are concerned about gas mileage, I-O's would be better

My alphas are fine (although I don't like the actual engine much). But from my experience with the 310 Santego, the Alpha drives are just to small to get the job done well. When the boat was in production, 98% of the ones we sold were inboards. The one we sold with Alphas was repowered with Bravo 2 drives within the first year. Volvo DP drives would be better, but I think it's hard to find one of these out there with outdrives.

That's a pretty big, heavy boat for Alpha drives...

Sure is Pete, and the boat runs beautifully with inboards, as does the 310 Express of the same vintage

Ram,

Not sure if you can help. I am trying to find out if this boat was ever in salt water.
Can you tell where a boat was sold by the serial #

It is CDRJ6007H798

Thanks

Hi Cliff and Jean. I don't know if this will help, but I have a 1989 Santego with the Alphas. By the specs, it is fairly close to the 310 if not identical hull (maybe Ram could verify),but I can say that the speed is up there with the outdrives at close to 40 mph flat out but the economy and handling is a little lacking.I get about 1 mpg (imperial) at a 27 mph cruise. The inboards I understand will lower the top speed but get you better dock handling. By the way, I'm just down the lake from you near Harwood.

Cliff & Hean...I will see if I can find out tomorrow where the boat was originally sold.

Dan...the 310 is a totally different hull than the 3067 that you have. it is narrower by a bit, and shorter as well. The 310 is actually the replacement for the 2767 Santego, and the J in it's hull number indicates that the hull length was 28 feet inhouse at Carver. It is the 7th one made for the 98 model year

Dan,
I drive through Harwood every weekend on my way home. Hope to see you on the lake next summer.
Ram,
I am also looking at two 94 310's
Was there much difference. I know the 98 is 2 inches wider.
Was there any big changes to the windows or the hull in that time.
They are both IO's one has Alpha 1s dont know about the other yet but I suspect the same.
They are both priced quite high 69K and 74K
I am also not against importing one as long as it is a fresh water boat.
I am not stuck on the 310 but like it's layout.
Thanks for your advice.

The 94 is the same boat...I think in 98, they started including the gunnel moulding lOL. The windows on the 98 are bonded in like the new boats, wheras the 94s are aluminum frames. Those prices do sound high, there's a broker in Sandusky, Ohio that's got a 96(?) for sale with inboards and radar etc... for 58,900 and it's a freshwater boat. The 310 has a good layout and rides fantastic. It has a fairly deep vee (19 or 20 degree vee) and cuts the water quite nicely.

I'll keep my eye out for you when the lake softens. We generally head up to Hastings as a group at least a couple of times a year.Maybe we can swap Carver stories then.

Ram,

Were you able to get any info on this.

Thanks

The people at Carver were winding down from the Miami show...I will try this coming week for you

Cliff, Cliff, Cliff,

Do all your Regal friends know you are looking at a Carver?? :)
So, I'm guessing next years RRR will be all Regals, with one SeaRay and one Carver egh?? Tee Hee.

No worries here.. Ram will help assist you with your Carver questions.. We know him well since he is our dock neighbor... and yes, he keeps that Carver looking pretty much like new!!!

Ram, I believe that we looked at that 310 with you didn't we? If so, I recall it as being a pretty nice boat...

I dont feel very welcome over there.
The group here are much less restricted.

I have mixed feelings about going from a boat I bought new to a used boat but like the size and comfort the Carver's have.

We shall see but I wont be posting on the Regal site any more.
