I have a 92 silverline open bow ski with the I/O ford 2.3 omc cobra drive. Just a little background, i bought the boat with a cracked head due to freezing. I fixed that problem. I got the boat up and running. Heres the problem, i can run it at home off of the hose in neutral and it does fine but when i put it in the water and under a load it wouldnt accelerate above 3000 rpms without sputtering and cutting out. From idle to 3000 it ran trouble free, so heres what I have done too try to correct the problem- rebuilt the carb, replaced the coil, points, condenser, plugs and wires, fuel filter, I set the timing, points and dwell to specs. After all of the WOT rev moved from 3000 to 4000 but will not go any higher without sounding like its hitting the rev limiter. Im just about too give up on the old boat, if anyone can help i would greatly appreciate it.
Ive heard about this happening if the drive selector isnt adjusted right could this be my problem, my drive selector doesnt work the best in the world. I have to go from drive through neutral and almost engage reverse for it too disengage drive, and vis-versa.
