I'm looking at purchasing a 2000 Santego 380 and the owner say's it has Merc 8.1s. I haven't done an exhaustive search online, but just skimming the ads of yachtworld and boattrader ...I can't find another one with 8.1s.

Just looking for validation if the 8.1s actually came in a 2000 model Santego 380.

Haven't been on the boat yet and hoping to get some pictures of the engines sent to me.

jcs,
the one on Allatoona? I can get you more info on that boat.

Woodsong,
Yep, that's it. I should know today about the engines, owner is traveling but has been very responsive.

Are you sure you want a 38' boat with gas engines? Especially given the trend to higher ethanol content? Just askin'.

Just confirmed with owner, they're original and are 8.1s (360 hrs). Current owner purchased the boat in 2002, the original owner special ordered the boat with 8.1s.

Bob, - I would love to have diesels - for exactly the point you make. But in the sub $100K price range, it's hard to find a well maintained freshwater diesel powered 32 - 38 ft. boat. But I'm open to options.

Also, I boat on a relatively smallish lake, so we typically don't run the boats all that hard, there's really no where to go ;-)

I have a 91 380 Santego with 454 Crusaders and they have plenty of power for almost anything. They also are reasonably efficient when run at under 1200 RPM, approx. 2 mpg at that speed. On the river, we use that speed probably 90% of the time. Occasionally running at 3200R RPM cruise for 10-30 minutes if we are trying to make it to a lock or such.

We have a friend with a Santego that has 7.4 engines.
She runs great, doesn't draw much water and has a buttload of room inside and outside.
They took the transome seat and fixed it to wear you can sit looking forward for when
moving and for facing backwards for when sitting at the dock.
Real nice boat.
